Invasion left Medics behind

Wow, this year has been a bad year for Medics. Literally nothing special has happened to the class at all. It’s been nothing but bad news for everyone’s favourite healer, over a variety of updates, not just Invasion. But Invasion kinda just rubs it in even more. This time round though, Medic’s pain is kinda shared with my other main class, Soldier (since I haven’t gotten around to being able to call Demoman a main of mine yet), but honestly, Soldier’s always been lucky so this is an unusual change of pace.

That’s not to say that the Invasion update is genuinely bad for Medics in the way Gun Mettle was. Gun Mettle only had nerfs, nerfs and more nerfs to Medics. The only ‘buff’ Medics got was being able to heal Equalizer/Escape Plan Soldiers, but they’ll all probably die anyway because the healing rate is on par with the Pyro’s Backscratcher. Maybe you’ll get lucky though and manage to get those last few bits of Ubercharge. Not that it matters anyway, since pretty much everyone has access to Vita-Saw-like game-breaking mechanics in the form of picking up dead Medics’ Medi Guns and using up all their Uber. It’s a bad mechanic because it makes Medics making mistakes even more of an issue. It’s bad enough losing your Ubercharge, it’s even worse to have the enemy team rub it in your face by killing your team mates with your own Uber while you respawn.

Anyway, I’m getting needlessly hot and bothered. I should get back to the content for Medics in this new update. I do want to say that the weapon reskins are all really nice, and it’s unusual for Engineer to get multiple things. He actually did really well. Yet again though, this update’s winner was Sniper, who always gets a fuckton of stuff. Always. Pyro and Scout, also as always got a ton of stuff too. What surprises me the most is the quantity overall of things that got in. This is particularly odd since there were SO MANY ITEMS on the Steam Workshop. Surely there was enough in there to add one thing for each class? There were 128 compatible cosmetic items in the Invasion Collection, but the Invasion Update only contained 21 items (including the badge for making items), nearly half of which (10 items) went to 3 classes only.

But you know what? I can stand not having cosmetics. I only ever wear the party hat only. At least Medic mains can partake in the statistics part of the update? You know, the pass that gives us a coin that counts stuff? Wrong. At first, it only counted kills. Direct kills as well, which means assists and sentry gun kills were originally excluded from statistic counting. This was fixed on the October 9th patch (apparently – some say it’s temperamental), but this should have been in the game in the first place. The coin doesn’t seem to track anything else. Not even the amount of beer you collect in Watergate.

Here’s hoping that this will be fixed, because we all know that TF2’s never about who gets the most kills, it’s about teamwork and being stupid. Also, let’s hope that the next update will have something more for everyone.

Medic

Medic, also known as Phovos (or occasionally Dr Retvik Von Scribblesalot), writes 50% of all the articles on the Daily SPUF since she doesn't have anything better to do. A dedicated Medic main in Team Fortress 2 and an avid speedster in Warframe, Phovos has the unique skill of writing 500 words about very little in a very short space of time.
