A Week of Love and Hate 3 – WINNERS!

Hi everyone! Just a quick 500-word announcement about this glorious week! It’s been a really nice week filled with tons of love and hate, and lots of conversation about video game maps. We’ve discussed hated classics like 2fort, we’ve looked at the superb design of Portal 2 maps, we’ve even looked at some weird as heck community maps. In the next few days, we’ll see a few more articles, aabicus’s least favourite L4D2 map, as well as my own stupid opinions on lovable and hate-able maps.

Although we didn’t get a lot of entries (I understand, writing articles is hard), I’m genuinely impressed with the high quality of everyone’s work. Picking out winners for this year’s contest was surprisingly difficult, and I had to send quite a few strained PMs to aabicus asking for help in the decision-making process. Well, until I finally came to my own decisions and picked some winners.

This year’s prizes are a bit different. There are two sets of prizes – one for the best article written about maps you love, and one for the best article about maps you hate. Both winners will receive a game and a TF2 key.

The winner of the Best Article of Love is Medical Warlock, with the article Frontier. Beautiful images accompanied a well-written piece about how good the map Frontier is, while simultaneously reminding me just how awesome that payload cart is and that maybe I should play Frontier at some point.

The winner of the Best Article of Hate is SilverWolf, with the article I Hate CP_Egypt_Final. This article oozed with so much hatred and suffering that I felt a desire to take a flamethrower to the map while nodding sadistically in agreement.

Congratulations you two! You’ve won a game each and a TF2 key! Maybe you’ll unbox an unusual? Although I totally don’t blame you if you just sell the key for €2.30. You could probably buy yourselves a second game!

But in reality, thank you all for writing articles and submitting them. This week has made a real change, and has almost persuaded me to load up TF2 and Portal 2 and maybe play a little. I probably won’t, but damn, your articles were good. I almost can’t wait until next year to see what you all right for a Week of Love and Hate 4. Should be an easier theme as well. And better organized. To be honest, this year’s contest sneaked up on me.

An extra special thank you to SilverWolf, who wrote a total of four articles for the contest. You didn’t have to, but you did. And you added lots of pictures too, which is always nice. SilverWolf actually beat me and aabicus, we only wrote two articles each about maps, and we’re essentially contracted to do so.

Oh, and as always, thank you everyone who stopped by and read our articles. Love you guys, whoever you all are.

Winners, please contact me on Steam (and add me as a friend if you haven’t already done so) and I’ll send your prizes over to you!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week of love and hate!
