Overwatch, a few tips to new players

This article, as the title implies is going to be more of a guide than an article. If you feel like you already know how to play Overwatch really well than you may not need to read this. 1. Bastion (or whoever) is not overpowered. This is something I feel new players in Overwatch complain about for the same reason TF2 players complain about things like Phlog Pyros. Bastion for example is really good against uncoordinated, disorganized and generally newbie teams but is bad against experienced players. Mei is a total bitch and Roadhog’s hook is awful. But sometimes there… [Continue Reading]

Why I think you should give Dirty Bomb a chance

Dirty bomb is one of my favorite games, I love the diverse class options, different counter play mechanics, fast paced fire fights, and massive emphasis on team coordination that the game provides. However the game does not come without its flaws, those being a less than stellar payment model, and a small map selection. Of course Dirty Bomb is still in beta and new characters are being added regularly, if you haven’t played it for a while come back and see whats new. It’s free on steam and the rotation changes every 2 weeks. Anyway my reasons for writing this… [Continue Reading]

Unique Loadouts 1 – Direct hit + Buff Banner

This week’s loadout is brought to you by RabidKarim. “If I might make a suggestion have you tried Direct Hit and Buff Banner? It is really fun because mini crits have no fall off coupled with the direct hits extra damage and rocket speed you can hit 150 damage rockets from across the map.” When using this loadout I at first was incredibly frustrated, most of this stemming from me just being terrible with the Direct Hit. But after about 8 round of using this on mainly payload and KOTH, I found it is most effective on payload offense, especially… [Continue Reading]

Why the New Loch and Load is Pure Evil

The Loch ‘n’ Load. SPUF has always had a love-hate relationship with this weapon. It was loved for being able to kill sentries and how it was less spammy than its default brother, but at the same time hated because it could kill light classes with a single shot, while still being somewhat worse than stock in most situations. This weapon was changed in the Demoman update of Smissmas 2014, where the Loch ‘n’ Load was changed and has remained this way ever since. The Loch ‘n’ Load was a weapon which traded half of the stock grenade launcher’s four barrel clip size and rollers in… [Continue Reading]

The Sword is lovelier than the Sandvich

So a German told people to write articles about what classes they love and hate in honor of valentine’s day. I think many SPUF regulars should already know what my favorite “class” is, and the strangest part is it’s not even its own class. The Demoknight is my current favorite class in TF2, or at least was before it was over nerfed into oblivion. Anyway Demoknight is more than strapping on any old shield, and to be honest I don’t even consider the Charge ‘n’ Targe actual Demoknight, mainly because while the Tide Turner encouraged getting in for awesome sword… [Continue Reading]

Mannpower is the new TF2 Beta in Disguise.

Now before I say anything else, I would just like to point out that this is theory, as in pure speculation, none of this is officially confirmed. OK, now since that’s out of the way let’s talk about Mannpower. My first reaction to this “game mode” was that it was incredibly silly. Grappling hooks and powerups that make you super stronk were something I expected from custom mods and trade servers, not from an official Valve beta.  That is until I spent time looking through it and looked at the details which lead me to believe that Mannpower is just… [Continue Reading]

Why the Rocket Jumper is Bad for Tf2

Yes I know we have all seen Star_ and other Youtube celebrities stomp upon the lowest of pubs with this weapon, but those tend to be highlight clips. The Rocket Jumper is a weapon that completely removes your ability to deal ranged explosive damage as a Soldier, you can no longer take out sentries, you can’t properly defend a Medic, and overall you cannot do anything to support your team. But at least you can jump around to your heart’s content while the rest of your team actually gets work done. Why does this weapon even exist you may ask?… [Continue Reading]

Weapons that Reward you for doing your Job

Within Team fortress 2 there are quite a few weapons that people claim are imbalanced because “they reward you for doing what you should already be doing”. Of course I do not understand how this is a bad thing, how is rewarding players for accomplishing something they are supposed to do as a bad thing? Would you rather valve release weapons that encourage not doing your job? He says, angrily looks at the Rocket Jumper. One of the most notorious of these weapons is the Diamondback, a revolver that grants in critical hits for every sapped building and backstab kill… [Continue Reading]

Competitive Demoknights

There has been a large deal of discussion regarding Demoknight as of recently, most of which stems from the recent changes to the Tide Turner, overall the Tide Turner got people to take Demoknight seriously as a both a threat and an ally. Now there are multiple competitive formats in TF2. First up, Highlander, which is a 9v9 format where classes are restricted to one of each class per team. Next we have the 6v6 format which supports up to two of a class, (excluding a few people, who are limited to one) and involves dual Scouts, Soldiers and a single… [Continue Reading]

The Eureka Effect’s Wasted Potential

The Eureka Effect is one of the few weapons where a well intentioned buff turned out to be a complete nerf. For those of you who do not know the Eureka Effect is currently a wrench that allows you to teleport to your spawn and to your own teleporter exit. Now that may sound like a ninjaneers wet dream but in exchange for this potential mobility you lose 50% repair rate and 50% build rate, which makes you take over twice as long to build a sentry. Rather than the already slow 8 swings per upgrade, you are making a… [Continue Reading]
