My Thoughts on Cosmetic Shops in non F2P games

These days, cosmetic shops in our video games is kinda common. Generally, a game will have some sort of shop where you can buy items for real world money, or some currency you buy with real money. And there’s often a season pass as well, that gives you cosmetics too. However, are these cosmetic shops a good thing or a bad thing? In multiplayer games, cosmetics can go a long way After all, everyone wants to look unique. Allowing people to customize their characters and all that is big business, and people are also willing to spend money to look… [Continue Reading]

On Playing Pokemon GO as a Free To Play Player

I won’t deny it, I’ve spent money on Pokemon GO. Not much though. For the perhaps thousands of hours of enjoyment, I’ve not spent much at all. I’ve purchased a handful of event tickets and the rare €5 coin bundle. But most of the time, I just use what I have, and if I run out, that’s it. However, I may have mentioned that I started a new account. That account is completely free to play. And mostly separate from what I normally do. It mostly just does community days, raids and the odd event if I can be bothered.… [Continue Reading]

Destiny 2’s DLC System Feels Expensive for What It Is

I’ve always wanted to like Destiny 2. The premise seems awesome. It’s like a cross between Borderlands and Halo with a hint of Warframe. I completely missed the train on Destiny 1, but Destiny 2 having both an open beta and becoming Free to Play meant I could give it a go. But every time I do try and get into Destiny 2, I get frustrated. Half of it is that I find the platforming required to be atrocious. The other half is that, well, I feel like I might as not be playing without DLC. Please note that this… [Continue Reading]

An Extreme Worry About The Change of Poke Coins in Pokemon Go

When I saw a news announcement pop up as I opened Pokemon Go, saying Poke Coins would be easier to get, I was happy. For about ten seconds. Frankly, Poke Coins are very hit or miss on how you obtain them. On the one hand, someone with lots of nearby gyms can get a small trickle of coins every day. Someone in the middle of nowhere might wait days to get their Pokemon to come back at all. The announcement seemed great at first. The idea that we can get Poke Coins by doing normal tasks sounds great, until you… [Continue Reading]

A Weird Game Called Trove

The problem with having people who want to play games with you but are completely broke and didn’t waste their money on a library of Steam games is that they don’t have any money to play any of the many games you have. I have about 160 games on Steam, my brother has about 400 because… well, for starters, he unboxed a €200 CS:GO knife a while back. My sister has 158 games apparently but doesn’t want to play any of them (or she uninstalled them all) and her fiancee has fuck all when it comes to a workable collection… [Continue Reading]

DC and the F2P: Initiation – TF2 Pub Tales

These excerpts were found within the diaries of DC’s sister, among some cinders and next to a pair of Pyrovision Goggles.    The Prologue So there my sister DC was, sitting around in her chair, mumbling about hats and projectiles and typing away some kind of nonsense. She’s been at it for nearly a year now, a year of me waking up in the middle of the night sometimes when she screams for a doctor or just madly cries out to no one in particular. I have reason to believe that her participation in Team Fortress 2 has caused her to… [Continue Reading]

6 Things I Learned After 500 Hours of TF2

Team Fortress 2 is my latest obsession nowadays. Yes, this first-person shooter with cartoonish graphics may have been released in 2007, but this game still gives me fresh laughs and plenty of enjoyment today. I love the wacky lines, the teamwork you can foster, the griefers, the hats, the taunts, and all the other lovely (and not-so-lovely) chaps you can play with in order to win a round. In truth, I’ve spent the last 6 months or so accumulating around 500 hours of playtime in this game (in public servers alone). 500 hours may sound like a lot of time… [Continue Reading]

Some things you shouldn’t do in a Free To Play game

Today, we turn into some sort of Buzz Feed thingy and talk about a bunch of things that people rally shouldn’t put in their Free to Play games. Yes, I know you make these games to make money, but there’s plenty of ways you can do it without pissing off players. Non-pissed off players are more likely to tell other people about your game and spend money on it than pissed off players will. So let’s begin. Number 1 – Pay To Win This is always number one on any sort of Free To Play checklist. Is there anything in… [Continue Reading]
