Robocraft: Now in Beta

I’ve had a long relationship with Robocraft.  It’s been in early access alpha for years now, and the game has morphed and grown in so many ways.  Wayyy back in the day, the game was built in tiers kinda like World of Tanks, there was only about three movement types (wheels, hoverblades, and thrusters and helium for flying), and three types of weapons, SMG laser spam, arcing AOE blasts of plasma, and railgun snipers.  Your craft was piloted by a goofy little spaceman, whom you had to protect to survive.  The only game mode was a 10v10 last man standing… [Continue Reading]

Twitch Plays Pokemon: A Legacy

Who remembers Twitch Plays Pokemon? It was exactly three years ago and one of the first massive online events I remember personally participating in. For those who weren’t there, here’s a quick rundown: on February 12 2014, a new Twitch stream opened up called “Twitch Plays Pokemon” that challenged the viewers to work together to beat the classic Pokemon Red. The game would recognize any commands input into the Twitch chat like “A”, “Up” or “Select” and would execute them in the order they were received. As TV Tropes put it, it was “over 100,000 people fighting over a controller.” And it… [Continue Reading]

The Gun That Won the West

I wrote a few articles in the past talking about some of my favorite firearms in video games, and after replaying Half Life 2 and seeing Father Grigori using the Winchester rifle I realized I needed to dedicate an article to the Wild West classic that didn’t stay dead. The Winchester rifle is an iconic firearm in western period pieces, designed for horseback riding and utilizing a lever-action reloading system that, while used by many guns at the time, nowadays is almost synonymous with the Winchester name itself. It’s a high-powered single-shot rifle with an iconic appearance, and that’s more than enough… [Continue Reading]

A Tribute to Rattata, My Favorite Pokemon

I was in high school when Pokemania swept the country back in the 90s. I first learned about it when I was walking through my hometown’s shopping mall and Nintendo had a massive expo setup to promote the new movie Pokemon 2000: The Power of One. You got a free Pokemon card just for stopping by, and that was where I received my first Pokemon ever:   I fell into buying the playing cards and watching the TV show like every other kid, but I wasn’t allowed to play the games so it wasn’t until college that I finally got to play… [Continue Reading]

Deleted Scenes

What a strange beast Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Deleted Scenes is… A single player game shaped from the success of an exclusively multiplayer phenomenon, trying to walk in the original Call of Duty’s footsteps. Bungled from Valve, to Ritual Entertainment, to Gearbox and finally a mix of the three resulted in Counter-Strike’s single player debut. The world unanimously came together, and after much thought, finally came to an unprecedented agreement amongst both gamers and critics, that it was completely and utterly~! Mediocre… As well as being automatically outdated by other titles upon release as it was finally kicked out the door… [Continue Reading]

Day of Deceit

A couple of days ago I was watching a YouTube video showing upcoming shooters. Overall, nothing really caught my eye. The “new” ones I’d seen before and I hadn’t found them interesting to begin with, and the others were remasters. But one game… One game most DEFINITELY caught my attention. Days of War. Now you may be pondering why this one game had caught me hook, line and sinker while the other games hadn’t even managed a blip on my radar. There’s a very, VERY good reason for that. You see, I was a Day of Defeat: Source player for… [Continue Reading]

Are constant updates for the best in Minecraft?

Minecraft as a has been around for quite a long time, with me alone having been playing it since December 2010, the same time when I joined SPUF. It’s a slow burner of a game, both in the way you play and how the game gets semi-frequent updates. Each update might not try to be bigger than the last, but they always try to add more stuff. You don’t often see things getting nerfed though, it’s mostly bug fixes and new features. The updates do add more to an otherwise very sparse and often repetitive-looking world. The very early InDev… [Continue Reading]

So what happened to the other SPUF mercs?

It’s weird how we don’t actually have that many SPUFers named after their mains over in the TF2 forums. Unlike SCUD, you can’t change your name on SPUF at all, and using a bad name will just get you banned. Which begs the question, where are all these other SPUFers? For now, I won’t be including people like The Pyro! or The Heavy. who cheat the system by using punctuation. There’s a few of these, but they all have small post counts anyway. The sad news is that they’re not really anywhere. Every The ____ account apart from The Medic,… [Continue Reading]

Happy Independence Finland

First, lets get some music here: Now that we are listening one of the most beautiful pieces of orchestrated music in recent history (and by recent I mean music made from 1800 forwards), we shall discuss what this national holiday entails, and a little bit of the other holiday on the same date, St. Nicholas’ day. First thing to discuss about this independence day is what was we became independent from. Now, I could go into a lot more detail about the entire history of this region from about 1100 (when the crusades started to come into the north) all… [Continue Reading]

On League of Legends and its Lore

The other day, the new revamp for one of League of Legends’ least popular and hardest to balance champions was announced, and bloody hell, it really is a revamp. The new Poppy looks both amazing and much easier to balance. Because sadly Ubercharge-style abilities don’t work in LoL. This is following the release of Illaoi, the second of the tentacle-using champions and someone who can rip your soul out and use it as a punching bag. Of course, with new characters comes new lore, but League of Legends hasn’t been doing great on that mark. A while ago, before the… [Continue Reading]
