I Finally Figured Out Why I Do and Don’t Like Destiny 2

I have a massive love/hate relationship with Destiny 2. It’s a game that I have drifted to and from, right from the start. Okay, sure, I never played Destiny 1. But when the beta came out on PC, aabicus and I played it, doing the one available strike on Nesus. While it was, well, alright, Destiny 2 didn’t really stick to me. In fact, many of the previous articles I have written about Destiny 2 have been somewhat negative. In the mean time, I played other games. Warframe is the big name among them, and had just the right balance… [Continue Reading]

Messy Love with Thundermountain

Ever wanted to play a payload map which has everything: twisty turns, multi-layered battlegrounds, notable sight-lines to please every Sniper in Badlands and of course everyone’s favorite chokepoints where things like to stalemate and action goes on non-stop. Well, Thundermountain may be for you, or not if you are looking for a quality experience. It is a map which wants to be jack-of-all-trades; it has something for everyone but it doesn’t do it exactly in a tasteful way. To put it more simply, it is a mess. However, as much as I want to hate and rant about this map… [Continue Reading]

I Love dm_duel_v1

I remember the feeling of instant buyer’s remorse upon playing Team Fortress 2. Because the person who introduced me to it invited me to an empty 2fort server. It had nothing to do with the game itself but rather the family Windows XP I was playing it on chugging and spluttering. It was trying its damnedest to impress me, but the frame rate was abysmal. I, being the young, naive and incredibly handsome hero of this story, thought it would work flawlessly if I simply belieeeeeeved! For reasons unknown to even the greatest of scientists, this approach simply didn’t work. But… [Continue Reading]

The Forbidden Love

CP_Junction is a horrible, horrible map. As in, super horrible. As in, if it pops up on map rotation, I recommend ditching immediately. It’s a disaster of a map for anyone who isn’t playing Engineer. The first thing you notice about Junction is how boring it is. Junction is indoors. It’s dark, gloomy, and overly grey. It’s cramped and tight. There are tight spaces everywhere. The whole thing just doesn’t work. It’s not appealing to look at in any way. The other indoor map, Turbine, makes up for it by having the large middle room which looks somewhat interesting, and… [Continue Reading]

I Love de_dolls

Sometimes I wish we saw more bonkers maps like this as official maps in games, just to see what the devs would conjure with no restraints on conventional map making, at least in terms of aesthetics. I love the silly nature and tone of this map, but I also genuinely enjoy it as an actual map to fight in. The scale (and what’s done with it) makes for some incredibly unique fights. You can snipe across the floor, run’n’gun on the inside of the bed, climb and brawl inside the drawers, hide behind the thin plaster walls, fly up the vents, it’s… [Continue Reading]

I Love Community Maps

Where do I start, community maps have been around for a very long time, my first foray into multiplayer source games was on a community map. Specifically on TF2 of all places, all i remember was it had a LOT of orange and was called cp_orange, in fact a fair amount of any source engine based community map used this colour, along with a bunch of grey. I’d like to think this is because valve used the colour orange in their source engine logo, but I think a more logical answer is that it provides a very good contrast between… [Continue Reading]

3 Things I Love About Badwater Basin

I take in a deep breath and look over the land with great fondness. Ahh, Badwater Basin. Nope, not that real life basin of “bad water” over at Death Valley. I’m talking about one of the oldest maps in the Team Fortress 2 universe, the second Payload map added to the game. Yep, good ol’ pl_badwater. That’s right, the little basin in the shape of Australia, you bloody fruit shop owners. Badwater Basin has always been one of my favorite maps in Team Fortress 2. I believe I started falling in love it when I was a wee lad with… [Continue Reading]

Frontier

There is one map in TF2 that I really, really love, despite how everyone I ever play with immediately wants to switch over to play pl_upward. Seriously, what’s the deal with that bloody map, the last point on that thing always have like 10 Level 3 Sentries on it. Anyways, my most favourite map in TF2 is pl_frontier. When we talk about Frontier, we’ll have to talk about the map’s most recognizable feature, and also one of my most favourite things in TF2. Ladies and gentlemann, may I present to you … Lil’ Chew Chew. Lil’ Chew Chew is the… [Continue Reading]

A Week of Love and Hate 3 – A Place for Love

You know what I really, really, really hate? More than the billion shitty variations of maps like trade_minecraft and achievement_idle? When some part of my computer, this time my external hard drive, decides that it’s going to kill itself in some way and totally screw up an event I planned. But I’m not letting the potential death of my hard drive get me down, or get in the way of an event. Yep, here we are, on the third… Season? Series? Episode? Whatever… The third Week of Love and Hate. And while there aren’t that many entries, I can see… [Continue Reading]

Coming Soon – A Week of Love and Hate 3 – Even More SPUF

It’s that time of year again. After the supposedly love-filled month of February comes the dreary month of March, which can’t be asked to snap out of winter and become the prettiness of Spring. Spring is April’s thing, March couldn’t give a shit. But March is also the time for A Week of Love and Hate, Number 3. That’s right, the community-writing fun fest is here to annoy you all. For those of you who don’t know, A Week of Love and Hate is about people writing articles about things they absolutely, uh, love and hate. Then a week is… [Continue Reading]
