My 5 Least Favourite Shiny Pokemon (that I actually use)

I’m a simple person. If I see something shiny, then I feel I must have it. My brain works like that of a magpie or crow, always gathering shiny items. However, since most magpies and crows can’t use game consoles, they can’t really understand what a shiny Pokemon is. And as we slowly climb towards nearly a thousand different Pokemon, it’s a tad tedious to rate all of them. Instead, in today’s article, I’ll be sticking to only Pokemon that I use. Because, even if we round it down to just Pokemon GO, we’d be here all day. Garchomp First… [Continue Reading]

My Thoughts on Community Days with PvP-Orientated Moves

Over the last year or so, pretty much every Community Day has been the same. It’s a not very new shiny, that gets a move designed for PvP. The last Pokemon that got a move useful for PvP was Rhydon with Rock Wrecker, back in February 2020. Before then, we had a basic pattern of “cool Pokemon” then “Starter Pokemon”. But 2020 changed all that by bringing back repeat candidates and having… unusual moves. Of course, this hasn’t made everyone happy. And, of course, I’m going to give my opinions on the matter. To be fair, there’s only so much… [Continue Reading]

A Permanent Sense of Not Winning and Doing Nothing

I’ve secretly always been insanely competitive, but I’ve always hid that side by playing games where it doesn’t matter too much if you lose, or by playing games that are actually pretty easy once you get the hang of them. At the same time, I’ve also had a ton of people ask me if I want to play various battle royale games, mainly Apex and Fortnite. You’d think, what with the loose, “jump in, jump out” system that battle royale games have, I’d want to play them, right? Wrong. In a battle royale game, there is only one winner. Meaning… [Continue Reading]

A thing about MMOs

I’ve been trying to like Elder Scrolls Online. Like a lot of things, I always end up not liking something for some reason and I can’t explain why. I’ll sit there for ages, playing a game and not knowing what makes me hate it. But with Elder Scrolls Online, I think I have finally put my finger on it. It’s because it’s an MMO. My first introduction to an MMO was a brief stint in Runescape. This was back in 2007-08, so it may have been a pretty good game, or it might have been shit, I don’t really remember.… [Continue Reading]

Are constant updates for the best in Minecraft?

Minecraft as a has been around for quite a long time, with me alone having been playing it since December 2010, the same time when I joined SPUF. It’s a slow burner of a game, both in the way you play and how the game gets semi-frequent updates. Each update might not try to be bigger than the last, but they always try to add more stuff. You don’t often see things getting nerfed though, it’s mostly bug fixes and new features. The updates do add more to an otherwise very sparse and often repetitive-looking world. The very early InDev… [Continue Reading]

Back to the very beginning of me…

I never thought I’d be the sort of person to play video games regularly, let alone be running and writing a blog about them. I never thought I’d be making websites for a living. I never thought a lot of things. One of the things that I HAVE recently been thinking about though is how I got here. Yeah, yeah, you’ve all heard it, I started off as a no one with a gimmicky name and ended up being one of the faces of SPUF with a gimmicky name. But it goes back further than that. SPUF was the fourth… [Continue Reading]

Your first TF2 games

I was going through my unfinished articles. I hate all of them. But one of them is a gigantic, unfinished guide on everything you need to know about being a newbie to TF2. One day, I do plan on finishing that (when Competitive Matchmaking leaves beta, I guess), but for now, I’ll work on it occasionally. But for now, let’s think about those first few games of yours. The ideal first few games would be quite simple. You play the tutorial for Soldier, you play the second part with the bots, then maybe you play a training game with easy… [Continue Reading]

On Saints Row 3 and 4

So I’ve been playing Saints Row: The Third with aabicus lately and we’ve been having a blast despite the iffy connection. I’ve mentioned Saints Row before, we actually brought up one of our Daily SPUF articles while playing, Both games get a lot of shit from deviating too much from ‘the series’, i.e. Saints Row 2, and being too over the top. I do get a lot of those criticisms – Saints Row 2 is overall a better game with more options, even if it is dated, I feel that Saints Row 3 does have merits of its own. Most… [Continue Reading]

Why Grenade Slots are a bad idea in TF2

Hey look! An article about Team Fortress 2! This is actually quite a surprise, because there’s not really been much to write about lately apart from cosmetics. But there’s been a thread on SPUF talking about grenade slots, from a person who is a fan of Team Fortress Classic (a.k.a Grenade Hell) and really, really wants to get that grenade slot in the game somehow. And I’m going to tell you why that is wrong. If you’ve ever played TFC with actual people, you’ll see a lot of grenades. Almost everyone in TFC has two grenades, a normal, bog-standard blow-things-up-in-an-explosion… [Continue Reading]

If TF2 Competitive wants to ever get off the ground, it needs to stop being so pretentious

That’s a long title, I know, but this is a problem I’ve had for ages with competitive TF2. In all competitive games, you are going to get some snobbery based off ranks and the like, but here, in our tiny little competitive community, we can be incredibly snobbish and pretentious. I want to start off with a personal story. I played in 4v4 EU Silver. Most of my matches were against platinum or gold 6v6 or Highlander teams, playing casually for fun. My team on the other hand had only played a season of 4v4, and were at the same… [Continue Reading]
