I JUST WANT TO PLAY MEDIC DAMMIT

You know what’s making me the most angry right now with TF2? I’ve been unable to play Medic for the longest of times. There’s actually several reasons why. It’s not just the normal stuff.

By normal stuff, you all know what I mean. The horrible team compositions consisting of nothing with more than 150 health. If you are lucky, you might find a Pyro scattered in the ruins of your base on defence, but Pyro aren’t the best when it comes to decent pockets for Medics to heal.

That’s not to say that Pyros and Scouts aren’t bad pockets. The last few updates have buffed Pyros and made Medics more compatible with Scouts. Pyros make for semi-decent pockets when on defence, when you are not moving around much and the enemy is coming to you. A reflected projectile is a good projectile. Unless it’s a sticky bomb. The shotgun is a good tool as well, but Pyro’s offensive abilities are all-round shit and more for flanking than leading a charge. The same applies to a Scout, they are designed for 1v1 fights, and while they can protect Medics, they can’t bodyblock for them and Scouts cannot in any way lead charges into battle. They are the clean up crew. Of course, in more coordinated gameplay, Scouts do circle Medics and protect them well, but those Medics generally are pocketing a heavier class and the Scouts hover like flies.

Even when a heavier class comes along, you can’t guarantee that they’ll be any good. A Soldier may be a very jumpy player, relying on being airborne 90% of the time. Or a Demoknight might come up. Demoknights are poor pockets, because they have NO reliable way of protecting a Medic.

But there’s another problem I am suddenly faced with. There are already too many people playing Medic in a lot of the games I have played recently. In one game, there were FOUR MEDICS. In a game with 12 players on your team, you don’t need that many Medics. Heck, 4 medics in a 24 player game is actually a very healthy amount of Medics, and any more than that is pushing it. Only in the realm of 32 player servers are more Medics needed, but even with 32 players, any more than 6 Medics total (3 per team) is really pushing it.

I can see why. The recent Medic buffs were genuinely very strong. The Quick-Fix barely even suffered even when its main gimmick was given to all Medi Guns, the Overdose’s up to 20% move speed bonus is amazing for essentially a zero downside, the Crossbow is still totally overpowered and the regenerating health buffs mean that even if your patient doesn’t turn around, you still have a chance to survive. Medic is deceptively more tanky, and the fact that you don’t need to be chained to someone all the time to gain Uber means battle Medics are more of a thing.

But Medic being more popular means that the person named Medic often can’t play the class he is named after. And that means I have to pick a different class. That class often ends up being Soldier or Demoman and I suck at those classes.

And all those other Medics, the ones stopping me from playing my main class, what do they do? They rush to my side, desperate for someone to heal.

Typical.

Have any of you had troubles playing your main classes? How did that make you feel? Fingers crossed your main is Soldier or something.
