Fire and Smoke go through the dust, too!

Hey there, fellow people that read The Daily SPUF!

As you can probably tell from the name of the article, this one is CS:GO related instead of TF2 related, and today we will be learning some good smokes for the most recognizable map in the Counter-Strike series, Dust2!

How I got to like Dust2 is kind of a coincidence, since it was one of my most hated maps (probably due to me liking more CT-sided maps like Nuke instead of balanced ones), but trying out “new” maps I thought that Dust2 is quite OK, and now it’s one of my favourites alongside Nuke and possibly Cache. And in this article specifically, I will teach you guys some of the better smokes that will make you a Global Elite Legendary Eagle!

Dust2, the map everyone loves or hates.

First off, let’s start with T-sided smokes. Your team decides to rush A through Long or decides to go Long after some time? There are 3 smokes you can apply in that scenario:

The first one is a rather easy one: You run towards long, go to the left near the car and blocks, aim up at the opening of one of the small boxes in front of you and throw your smoke.

Run to long, stand on bricks, aim at opening of small box, throw.

The second one is a bit harder and more unreliable, but considerably faster if you rush like the word “rush” implies. Stand at the back of T spawn in a corner, look at the roof top thing near Suicide, run forward and throw the smoke grenade. If things go well, you not only smoked that one CT that peeks into Long doors, but you also smoke off part of Long so you can savely jump into Pit!

The last long smoke is more centered towards smoking long doors and, when thrown effectively, is a one-way smoke. Run into the small hallway between the doors, line yourself up with the crates, look down and do a short throw a bit to the left onto a dot on the ground. You can then go to the leftmost of the hallway and peek through long without being seen, hopefully.

Once you breached through long, you might have to worry about the people on either A site, Cat/Short and CT, but with yet another smoke you can cut off visibility from Catwalk and CT Spawn. While running towards long, aim at one of the windows in the middle and between the sign, then throw it and hope it lands good. Sometimes when passing through you still have to worry about being peeked at from spots that the smoke didn’t cover.

That should cover some of the smokes for T-side long. Let’s take a look at smokes/molos you can do at short/cat. as Terrorist.

For molos (molotovs, incendiary grenades, that thing that makes fire appear), just aim at the pizza sign, run forward and throw. It should burn up A spot a lot.

Now for a very good smoke that not only covers most of cat, but also works as a one-way smoke for you to peek onto the intersection of CT, A ramp and Long!

First off, line yourself up near some bricks, hugging the wall, then look to the top left of you on the roof of one of the buildings. You will see some artwork and you have to aim a bit below the intersection of the 2nd square to the right and a line that connects with it. Then throw the smoke, and it should hopefully land on the edge of Cat.

Stand near bricks, aim slightly below the intersection of 2nd square and line on the artwork and throw. Peekaboo!

Another smoke that can be used for a B aswell as an A rush is the one at middle. No, not the one you casually throw down middle (which hopefully covers the CTs view on short), the one at x-box. Don’t ask me why that box on short is called like that.

Stand to the corner of x-box, aim up to a window and throw your smoke. It should cover CT Spawn perfectly and you can simply rush through without being seen from anyone that might guard long.

Stand at corner, aim at window, throw. RUSH B NO STOP CYKA BLYAT!

I specifically want to mention a rather hard smoke for B site. Even I have problems explaining it, but I will try my best. First off, when entering tunnels, immediately turn to the left into the small corner behind the pillar. Then align your crosshair onto the bottommost corner of the crate in tunnels. Then move your crosshair approximately 2,5 squares to the left (the pattern of the floor) and do a normal throw. If everything goes right, you can play peekaboo to the leftmost side of the smoke!

Play Peekaboo with the enemy AWPer at the back of the site, but beware of CTs rushing you!

That should cover important smokes for the Terrorists. Let’s take a look at the Counter-Terrorists!

Besides the normal Long smoke into Long doors, let’s assume you are playing short and your teammates (hopefully your teammates, or you take a look at the radio) tell you that Long is being rushed, but you are unsure if it’s a split A push. Have another one-way smoke: You should secure Cat first, assuming it’s a split push, so throw an Incendiary Grenade or Molotov there first if you have one. Second, throw a smoke at the corner of the site behind the barrel. It doesn’t have to be precise to work. Then head towards A ramp and hide behind the box, and when you crouch you can partially see the enemies, but they probably won’t see you!

…Or you decided to rush Short with the fire.

Warning: Do not spray like this.

…Or you didn’t go A in the first place and decided to rush B tunnels. (This also works as a smoke)

Anyway, back  to work.

Do you want to be sneaky-beaky like at middle, or get a good view on short from CT mid? Here are two useful smokes, one for short only and one that even covers middle!

For short: Run towards middle and turn to the right immediately after you pass the crate. Line your crosshair towards the “imaginary” intersection of window and the unpainted/painted part of the wall, run forward, jump and throw. If done correctly, it should land on short and you can pick them off easily.

Stand behind crates, aim at imaginary intersection of lines, run, throw, shoot things.

For middle: Go a bit further into a different corner, aim at the “imaginary” intersection of top of double doors and between the two visible windows, run forward for approximately 1 second, jump and throw. It should cover a significant amout of short and middle and you can get some sneaky beaky kills!

That should cover most of the smokes I use atleast. I hope you guys will use these more often, assuming you play Dust2 at all, and I will probably see you at the eagle ranks.

Oh, and let’s not forget Seals. Everyone likes Seals.

I know it's the "Hamster Hawk" Sticker, but I swear it's a Seal.
