I Don’t Trust This Pirate Lord Guy

So there’s a guy who is kinda in charge of the Sea of Thieves. At the very least, he controls most of the outposts and keeps it raining money. The Sea of Thieves is a massive secret, cut off from the rest of humanity. And everything in the Sea of Thieves is somehow related to this self-proclaimed Pirate Lord. But there’s something off about this guy, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe it’s because his name is Ramsey.

Either way, I don’t trust this guy.

So much power yet all you do is hide

Ramsey is, in a way, the god of the Sea of Thieves. He is one of the first people to have made it into the Sea of Thieves, and apparently brought everyone together. In fact, he created huge amounts of chests and scattered them everywhere for people to hunt, and mixes constant partying with pirate stuff in his underground pirate hideout. Not only is the Pirate Lord a ghost, but he can be in multiple places at once and controls a pretty large amount of pirate magic. In fact, he basically feeds you with bananas then tells you to get onto a ship that’s conveniently nearby, sailing you towards the Sea of Thieves.

But the Pirate Lord doesn’t seem to do much these days. He just hides in his office, occasionally greeting new people, congratulating new Pirate Legends and getting involved with the whole ship-naming business. Considering how powerful he is, Ramsey seems more like a bored child than an actual pirate.

He keeps on losing stuff

The Pirate Lord has powerful artifacts within reach, and keeps on losing them. Currently, one of the best money-making quests you can do involves finding the crystals used to charge an artifact so powerful that you can use it to merge pocket dimensions together.

Yeah.

In fact, in this quest, you actually STOP some evil spirits from binding the Sea of the Damned and the Sea of Thieves together. Which is obviously a bad thing because the Sea of the Damned is not a nice place. Especially if you hate the colour green.

Weird stuff with his kids

However, there is more that Ramsey has lost, aside from powerful artifacts. The Pirate Lord actually has two kids, non-identical twins. Both of whom are pirates as well. Lesedi and DeMarco used to run the Arena in the Sea of Thieves, until it was shut down. The siblings went their own separate ways, both fueled by different desires. Or at least, they did. DeMarco never had a chance to move on, and his skeleton can be found on Sea Dog’s Rest. Something happened and DeMarco died because of it.

As to how and why he died, who knows? It’s an ongoing murder mystery. What’s particularly curious is that Ramsey could have brought him back as a ghost, DeMarco could have returned via the ferry, but no, the son of the Pirate Lord is dead. And we can’t even say that reversing his death would have been impossible for the Pirate Lord, because Ramsey offered a fellow sailor a way to rejoin the living, but they refused. So how comes the most powerful pirate in the Sea of Thieves isn’t particularly bothered about the death of his own son?

In the meantime, we have no idea what actually happened.

Well, mostly…

Surely Ramsey can see this too? He seems not at all bothered by any of this.

I’m not alone in my lack of trust. Nor am I the first. In fact, Stormcloud captain Bacxaber has thought this all along.

Editor’s note: for future readers of this article, at the time, we had no idea at all about DeMarco’s death. So our accusations of Ramsey might not be accurate. But come on, the writing is literally on the wall…
