Thoughts on the 3900th Article and more
This isn’t the 3900th article. In fact, the 3900th article was posted back on September 27th. And, for a change, it wasn’t an article that I wrote. Glacier penned a fantastic article about Halo’s Digsite Matters, reviewing it all in a splendid article you can find here. It’s actually a great article, I really like it. I’ve never really been a massive Halo fan, but Glacier’s writing sells it to me. Now I kinda want to play this Crash Site necromancy, to see everything that Bungie wanted to put into Halo and couldn’t.
Was this article intended to be the 3900th article though? No, not really. Articles are generally written and scheduled long before I consider post counts and things like that. My main goal with the Daily SPUF has been to keep it daily, and that requires a lot of work. So whenever I see that someone has written an article and it’s not me, I tend to bump it up a bit, so it’ll post in a few days time, rather than the normal 10 days time. Currently, as of writing, I have articles scheduled up through October, and this article will be published on around the 9th. Or maybe it won’t. I often bump articles up as well to make them somewhat relevant to things like in-game events. And the days prior to this article being published, I’ll be visiting Cyprus Comic Con, and will probably write an article about that.
But the 3900th article is a pretty big milestone. And I’m kinda glad that it was unintentionally written by someone else. Because we do have other authors here on the Daily SPUF. I write about three quarters of the content here, but that remaining quarter is written by you, the readers, and they all have something unique to say. I always love reading other people’s articles because they are just so different from what I write. And they are generally more in depth as well. Also some articles are written by aabicus, you know, the guy who originally created this blog. Imagine if aabicus hadn’t handed over the Daily SPUF to me. We’d probably be in very different places. And you’d also probably not be reading this article.
We’ve been through a lot, and I’m glad we’ve come this far. After all, we’re now on the home stretch of the next big milestone. We are closing in on 4000 articles. By my calculations, the 4000th article will come out in early January of 2024.
As for the 4000th article itself? I still have no idea what I’m going to do for it. I considered doing a competition, but what would I give away? I do have some Steam keys for some games, but that feels kinda… lame. Maybe I’ll skip the competition and instead do a retrospective or something. Or maybe I’ll do both. Who knows? If you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know.
But yeah, I’m happy that we’ve passed 3900 articles. And I’m happy that the 3900th article was written by someone else. Because I have no idea what I would have written about the 3900th article if I were to have actually planned ahead.
Oh well. See you tomorrow, where we’ll edge even closer to the big 4K.
