On Struggling To Write Articles Again

Lately, it’s been a real struggle to write articles for the Daily SPUF. Normally we have 10 articles ready to go, but because I’ve been busy with real life, that number has dropped down to around 5, and I really need to start writing articles again. The problem is, I’ve kinda just… written so much lately, that doing Daily SPUF articles is hard.

And no wonder. I just went and checked my stats on my profile, and I have written over 2750 articles on my own. That is a LOT of articles. A minimum of 1.3 million words, assuming every article I have written is over 500 words – which most of them are. I’ve also covered a huge amount of different topics, big things and small. And there’s a lot of things I’ve covered more than once, intentionally and otherwise. 2.7k articles is a LOT, so the chance of having a repeat is always possible. Considering that we recently hit 4000 articles, I think we can all agree I’ve been working hard, and my slowing down was going to be inevitable at some point.

But, weirdly, despite my lack of Daily SPUF articles, I’ve been writing more than ever. Normally, I aim to write a minimum of 500 words as day, but lately, I’ve been easily hitting 1k words. In fact, a lot of days, I’m hitting 2k words, and I even managed a pretty impressive 6k words the other day! But almost all of this writing hasn’t been for the Daily SPUF (aside from that 6k day – two of the documents I wrote WERE Daily SPUF articles). No, most of my writing lately has been in the form of my fictional writing, which you may have read about in my recent Bionicle MOCs articles.

You see, last year, I really let my fictional writing go. While 2021 and 2022 were full of different story arcs, I kinda accidentally spread myself too thin and had too many different groups of people doing different things. I had the goings on within the main universe, the Six Guardians at the Southern Boarder, the Dessaron going out on their adventures in the Periuniversal Void, the (honestly quite depressing) story line of a former god just trying to live a normal life and all the mucking around with the remaining Phoviverse Deities, namely the conflicts between Yisini and Epani and their mother Kinisis. But I didn’t have any concrete story arcs going into 2023, outside of a couple of Voidborn Dessaron Adventures.

So I decided to do a soft reset, make my MK5 Phoviverse and go from there, and it’s been SO DAMN REFRESHING. Sure I kinda reused a bunch of names (having two characters called Retvik is kinda confusing, even if they’ve never met) but I’ve enjoyed having some new characters to write about. It’s been really enjoyable, and I’ve been writing a lot more than I used to. A lot of the fun comes from writing gladiator battles, which, in-universe, is both a substitute for war and a way of entertaining the masses, and it’s just a lot of fun writing about people beating each other up.

Still, I need to get back into writing Daily SPUF articles too. But that kinda requires me to have things to write about. And, I’ll be honest, I kinda don’t have much going on right now. Pokemon GO has been kinda lame with its events, Warframe is between updates (although I DO need to finish farming for Qorvex) and Sea of Thieves is great but there’s both new things and not really new things going on in it.

Maybe I’ll start playing some different games. After all, I managed to get Saints Row 2022 for free, so I might give it a go. At the same time, it’s… kinda depressing. But it’s something new to write about, and that’s what I kinda want lately…

Anyway, back to work, I guess. Got articles to write!
