Anyone Else Kinda Tired of Pawmi?

Pawmi is one of those Pokemon. The small, cute, annoying electric type critter that HAS to appear in every single Pokemon game. All vaguely based around Pikachu. Sometimes they look insanely like Pikachu (like Dedenne and Plusle and Minun), sometimes they aren’t quite as obvious (like Pacharisu and Pawmi) but they’re all electric types and they are all a pain the butt. And, just like Pikachu, they always seem to outstay their welcome. And right now, Pawmi has outstayed its welcome in Pokemon GO.

This Pokemon has been around for ages. It popped up in the Paldea season (two seasons ago, as of writing) and hasn’t gone away yet. Pawmi is still a common spawn, has been in multiple events and spawns outside of events as well. On top of that, it’s already had a Spotlight hour, and its spotlight hour sucked because it was evolution experience. Sure, Pawmi is a 25 candy evolution into Pawmo, but this season has Weedle, Caterpie and Pidgey all spawning, and they are way more efficient, candy-wise.

Speaking of evolutions, Pawmo’s evolution into Pawmot fucking sucks. You need to walk 25km in order to evolve it. It’s a reference to the whole Let’s Go! feature in Scarlet and Violet, where you can let your first Pokemon out of its Pokeball and it’ll run around and fight things and occasionally get itself killed. Sure, there are plenty of other Pokemon with stupid evolution requirements (like catching 30 dark types or doing a ton of raids) and there are some other long distance Pokemon. For example, evolving Feebas into Milotic costs 200 candy and walking 20km with it as your buddy. But Milotic is the Gyarados of its generation. Pawmi, Pawmo and Pawmot are nothing particularly special either, doubly so when there’s kinda not very much separating Pawmo from Pawmot, design-wise.

Speaking of which, not a fan of its evolutions’ typing. Electric/Fighting just makes it weak to Flying, one of the only two types Electric is good for. Pawmot doesn’t even have any good fighting moves to make use of this typing.

I suppose its shiny is cute, it goes a reddish-pink colour. Way better than other electric rodent shinies like Pikachu, at least. But there’s another problem. Pawmi’s shiny isn’t available in Pokemon GO yet. Which gives you even less of a reason to tap on it. I’m actually surprised the shiny isn’t out yet, because of how persistent Pawmi has been spawning, and that it’d make a good lure to get people into actually caring about it. Because, as it stands, the Pawmi line has very little going for it.

Actually, now I think about it, it’s not just Pawmi that’s outstayed its welcome. Most of the Paldea Pokemon that have been released have. Sure, Lechonk might be useless but it does have a neat shiny. However, Pawmi and the Paldea starters have not gone away at all. Nymble was tolerable in the brief time that its shiny was available, but that was apparently a bug (lol) and the shiny was made unavailable again. The Paldea starters have already lost their charm, doubly so since it’s going to be AGES until they get their Community Day moves and their signature moves, which are required to make them good.

This means that we just have to hold on to these Pokemon for ages, until they do get their shinies and special moves. But at the same time, we’re STILL waiting on the Galar starters and most of the Galar region.

I get it, people like their annoyingly cute electric types. But why is Pawmi hanging around, when Yamper, another annoyingly cute electric type, still missing? Pikachu has an excuse. All these other awkward electric bastards don’t.
