On Finally Getting A Damn Yellow Ship Set

I love Sea of Thieves. It’s the only video game that I play lately, outside of Pokemon GO. Admittedly, I’ve kinda gone off gaming in general (hence why this site is no longer updated daily) but pirates are fun and the new content for Reapers is somewhat interesting. I’m also a sucker for buying more and more ships. Most folks just buy a sloop, a brig and maybe a galleon, to have the full set. Me? I buy a new ship as soon as my previous ship has earned a legendary title. One of my more recent ships is Fluffyblade’s Joy, a cute little blue sloop, and, with a name like that, I wanted to be somewhat ironic and give it the title of The Legendary Feared.

All my ships though have a few things in common. Well, almost all of them. I have a sloop and a galleon called The Daily SPUF, and my first brig was called Little Stormcloud, named after Bacxaber’s three original ships, all called Stormcloud. Aside from those though, all my ships are named after Phoviverse characters, and I try to decorate my ships to match the characters they’re based on. Most of them are “Character’s Codename” + “some sort of loose noun”. The first ship to follow this format was Souldrainer’s Malice, a brig painted in purple and gold, to match Litvir, one of my writing’s protagonists. I also have “Flamebearer’s Pride”, a sloop, which is red and fiery and cool, just like my modern username (and also Phoviverse protagonist) Retvik.

However, for one of my earlier ships, I ran into a problem.

Arkay’s Fang was the second brig I bought after Little Stormcloud and Souldrainer’s Malice. Little Stormcloud is a Gold Hoarder-coloured ship in green and gold, and Souldrainer’s Malice, I’ve already described. Arkay’s Fang though, it’s based off my main protagonist. Arkay is a black-skinned, yellow-armored character, which means my ship ought to be black and yellow. I needed some yellow at least.

At the time though? There was no yellow. The only yellow hulls and sails, outside from the default plain yellow sail, were mixed with other colours. Most of the hulls I looked at, yellow was a secondary colour at best. I’ve already gone and complained about the Lightbearer Warlock set, but there was NOTHING that had yellow as the main colour. The closest thing was a Merchants’ Alliance hull, but even then, the yellow was more ocher and

In the end, I gave up making Arkay’s Fang yellow. I instead decided to make it into a cool Reaper set, using the white, gold and black Reaper sails, cannons, wheel and capstan, and a white and gold hull. I did later buy Deathbringer’s Agony, an Arkay-themed sloop, but I had the exact same problem. One solitary plain sail just looks boring, almost bad. So, on this sloop, I just made everything black.

However, very recently, half way through the Reapers Rule season, the Yellow Resolute Sails and Hull were released. And they are almost exactly what I was looking for. A ship set with yellow as the primary colour. And also kinda the secondary colour as well. It’s exactly what I was looking for!

Of course, as soon as the mid-season update came out, I logged in instantly and redecorated Deathbringer’s Agony to be in the correct yellow and black colours.

This ship set though has really good colours, and the yellow hull actually affects the inside of your ship quite heavily. Most ships leave the interior pretty plain, but the Yellow Resolute hull colours the interior walls yellow, and also gives you bright yellow masts. That’s surprising for a gold shop only release. The secondary/tertiary orange/ocher colours look great too. Yes, it is a LOT of yellow, but it’s also easy to mix and match with other colours.

Sadly though, there’s only three parts to this ship set – the hull, the sails and the flag. That’s… kinda it. I would have liked maybe some yellow cannons too. A figurehead would have been nice, but I don’t know what would work. And no, I’m not buying the Warlock Lightbearer figurehead with the yellow eagle. Fuck that set. The capstan and wheel, I’m not too fussed though. They’re not as prominent, and, particularly with the wheel, I struggle finding the centre sometimes.

Still, I’m happy. It’s taken years to get a yellow ship set, but the Yellow Resolute set is great, and almost exactly what I wanted. I just need to make a galleon to go alongside my yellow sloop and brig…

I’m so glad they finally added your yellow ship set! And it was a regular gold-purchased set too, how lucky 😀

As for other pieces, I noticed the Gold Hoarders have some good options for gold/yellow peripherals like cannons. Maybe check and see if any of those match your aesthetic for the remaining ship cosmetics
