Some interesting ideas – TF Comics
So, it’s been a month since the startling events in Team Fortress Comics #4 and already I’m wondering what’s going to happen next. Let’s be frank, the last bit of that comic was startling. Sniper really isn’t having a good time and Soldier’s girlfriend is having a hard time being the tenth class. Those other mercenaries are worrying and the Administrator looks like shit. Hey, don’t look at me like that, it’s hard writing an opening paragraph that describes what I’m talking about without spoiling the comics for those who are waiting for them all to come out!
Anyway, yes, today, in this article, I’ll be talking about a bunch of things somewhat related to the TF Comics. Will anything I say become true? Probably not.
First things first, there is a tad of a trend here. There’s some sort of origins thing going on. We had some of that with Heavy and we had a ton of that with Sniper. Neither class really had much backstory and Sniper found himself retconned because of it. Soldier has a lot of backstory, so do Demoman and Engineer, but the other classes, particularly Medic, Spy and Pyro, have very little to their names. Heck, none of them have names. So perhaps we’ll get some new lore to one of the lore-lacking classes. I do feel though that more time will be spent looking at the past of the Administrator or Saxton Hale or whatever, rather than looking at the mercs.
Another thing we’ve been lacking in the TF Comics is any all-together-ness among the RED mercenaries. Even the Team Fortress Classic team is lacking one of their members, their own Medic. Why? We don’t know yet. The Team Fortress 2 mercs haven’t managed to bring themselves together at all yet, and even when we had 7/9 of the team, they were still split up by Miss Pauling and the Administrator to do various tasks. It was interesting to see Scout and Heavy sent off on their own while the other mercs traveled to New Zealand, but next issue is number 5, the second last issue, so we need to get the team together at some point. The way everything is set up is rather unusual, as the TF2 Engineer is very far away compared to the other mercs, almost out of the picture. The same applies to the TFC Medic, who has been 100% absent.
The absence of the TFC Medic is actually very interesting. In the game, he’s both the healer and the flag runner, being more powerful than the TFC Scout. It seems very odd that he’d be left out completely. There has to be a reason for his absence. With the TF2 Medic currently switching sides, what’s stopping the TFC Medic from doing the same? I’ll genuinely be surprised if we don’t see the TFC Medic at all. A TFC Medic VS TF2 Medic fight would be interesting. One thing I do hope though is that the TF2 Medic doesn’t end up being a complete bad guy and has a change of heart. Or, even better, he’s been lying all along. It’d be typical though that the one time Medic gets a decent comic appearance, he ends up being the bad guy and on the wrong side of someone’s gun. It’s already happened to Sniper, it happening again would suck.
No matter what, we’re going to have to have a TFC VS TF2 battle. Most likely, this will start at the end of TF Comics #5 and be the main plot of TF Comics #6, where the comic will conclude. Engineer has been missing in action the entire time, too busy working with the Administrator, he’ll have to join in eventually. The fight will probably favor the TFC mercs, but in the end, we’ll either have a win for the TF2 mercenaries, with some sort of sacrifice along the way, or a draw of sorts. Or a robot army. Gray Mann isn’t going to sit on his ass all day. Maybe we’ll get some sort of cataclysmic battle in which both teams of mercenaries battle robotic hordes. And it’ll all end with the Administrator finishing everything up and settling her debts.
Let’s just hope that it’s all worth the wait.
