Please Calm Down With the Bunnies

Last weekend was Easter. Well, for most people, it was Easter. For me, it’s not Easter until the end of the month, due to Orthodos Christianity being… like that. But for everyone else, it was Easter. So that means everyone else has to have some sort of Easter-themed event. So of course Pokemon GO had an Easter event, even if it’s not specifically called an Easter event.

Spring into Spring brought everyone’s favourite Easter-like things.

I mean, it’s not a not-Easter-but-still-Easter-related event without eggs and bunnies and stuff, right?

The collection thing is back as well, with a bunch of Spring-themed Pokemon to catch. Thankfully, you don’t have to do a raid for any of these. But you do need to find a research task to get Azumarill. And you can’t just catch one Exeggcute, you need two. A normal one and a shadow one. The grass type and psychic type grunts both do have Exeggcute and, thankfully, they both seem common.

Oh and there’s bunnies.

Lots and lots of bunnies.

Actually, probably too many bunnies. Between Buneary, Bunnelby, Plusle and Minun, we have four bunny Pokemon spawning constantly. The only other common spawns are Exeggcute (because eggs) and Maril (because… uh…), as well as a handful of normal spawns. There’s also Nidoran spawning, and I guess they’re rather rabbit-y as well. Pikachu, Chansey and Eevee are pretty much rare compared to these three.

We also have Mega Lopunny in raids, and it’s surprisingly tanky. Genuinely a harder fight than the current legendary raid bosses.

Hang on, these seem… familiar…

All these bunnies have constantly been around.

Seriously, all the bunny Pokemon have NOT gone away! They’ve been in so many events! Plusle and Minun in particular! These Pikachu-wannabes appeared in the Valentines Day event, the electric event and the weather event. And now they’re spawns for the Spring event too. Despite being uncommon spawns in non-events too! Plus, whenever it rains, Plusle and Minun become weather-boosted and thus common Pokemon.

Meanwhile, Buneary and Bunnelby have been CONSTANT standard spawns for the Season of Legends. Actually, I say that, they’ve been standard spawns since the Season of Celebration, over 4 months ago! Bunnelby only recently became easier to catch and got its shiny for this event, but it has been spawning constantly since its release last year!

ALL of these bunnies are very common spawns and are no longer special in any real way. So having them as the bulk of the event, aside from Exeggcute, is really annoying.

It’s annoying because we have so many other Pokemon we could use.

Both Spring and Easter have a lot of different varying themes. It’s not all just bunnies and eggs. Okay, sure, we already had an event with Mareep and a community day with Roselia, but both of them match the Spring feeling. There are so many Pokemon that could fit the theme of either Spring or Easter, perhaps even both. Off the top of my head, I can think of quite a few. Alongside Roselia, Chikorita, Bulbasaur and Petilil all fit the Spring blooming theme. Flabebe and Floette could have been introduced too. Torchic fits the cute little chick theme, while Vullaby and Togepi both fit in as chicks, birds and eggs. And while Wooloo is a long way off in generation 8, no reason we can’t see Skiddo as a new release!

So the fact that we have a bunch of bunnies that were already spawning anyway seems very off. To the point that the only real difference between this event and normal spawns is… well, Chansey and Exeggcute! Even Pikachu and Eevee are kinda normal spawns.

I suppose, at least we have Alolan Exeggcutor back in raids. I missed that giant palm tree dragon guy…
