Confusion with New Mastery Ranks

“Hey! What are you doing here?”

Volt glanced away from the console he was trying to hack, so he could see who was shouting at him.

“Uh, hacking the console so we can leave this ship before it explodes?” Volt replied calmly.

The Tenno in person was a Gauss, with all the armour he could fit on his body. “You’re not supposed to be in this Sortie mission!”

“Uh, why not?” With a flick of his wrist, Volt retracted his Parazon and started heading towards extraction, as did the rest of the team. However, the Gauss kept on sprinting forward so he could talk to Volt more directly.

“Look at you!” the Gauss exclaimed. “You’re a Volt! Not even a Volt Prime! And you’re here in this Sortie mission!”

Volt shrugged, then activated his Speed ability, sliding under a broken archway. The Gauss however wasn’t quite as nimble and burst through the archway’s pillars, spilling debris across the ground behind him.

“You even have a Kuva Bramma!” Gauss shouted some more, pretending that his crash simply never happened as he rubbed his helmet with his free arm. “You have all sorts of gear! Stuff that someone like you shouldn’t be able to even touch!”

With another shrug, Volt continued his journey towards extraction, pausing only to free a random Solaris United member that had been left chained up in a corridor. The Solaris bloke waved a thank you to the Tenno, before disappearing.

“How do you even have Granum Crowns to spare?” Guass kept on asking all these random questions, and Volt had no idea why. Volt just wanted this sabotage mission to end, so he could meet up with Wukong later. “How are you…”

A high-pitched shout rippled through the air. Titania flittered into view, wagging her finger at both Volt and Gauss.

“I’d be out of here more quickly if this guy would stop asking me questions…” Volt muttered as Titania sped off, back the way she came. “It’s like you’ve never seen a Legendary One Tenno before.”

“A what now?”

“Legendary One. The rank after True Master!” Volt tutted as he finally reached extraction. However, Gauss immediately stopped, just short of the extraction zone.

“A what now?” Gauss semi-repeated himself. “Your little number is 1, but you’re NOT a Mastery Rank 1 Tenno? What is this black magic?”

“It’s not magic. My rank is Legendary one, or, if you prefer, Mastery Rank 31!”

“Oh.” Gauss fell silent. “So you’re, like, a True Master?”

Volt nodded. “Indeed I am.”

“But why are you a Volt?” Gauss asked, lowering his tone a bit. “You could be anyone, anything, and still be able to kick ass. But you’re, like, yellow and newbie-coloured. You’re not even a Volt Prime!”

“So? I can be whatever I want to be. This is what I am.”

“Excuse me!” a voice erupted behind Volt and Gauss. A rather annoyed Nova wagged her finger towards the two speeders. Titania, still in her pixie form, was doing the same. “Can we get a move on? This place is about to blow up!”

“Oops, yeah, sorry, lost track of time!” Volt shrugged, pulling Gauss into the extraction zone. “Been a while since someone last accused me of being Mastery Rank 1…”
