All These Guys Living Rent-Free on my Island
I’ve been playing Animal Crossing a bit, and honestly, I’m confused. What am I actually doing here? My island, called Kinigi, has a bunch of animals living on it and wandering around the place as if they own it. Why these people are here? Well, I invited them. Most of them. The others visited via my camp site or on their own islands.
The first two were quite nice. A rhino called Tank and a cute piggy called Agnes. They were randomly invited to the island randomly and they are fine. As starter villagers, they are both nice, even if Tank is a bit smelly due to all his exercising. Which he mentions every time I give him a gift. Pudge, who came in third, is alright but a bit of a downer. He always seems to have a look on his face suggesting he’s heavily uncomfortable.
The rest of my followers came from my campsite or from a Nook Miles ticket. My very first campsite guy was Raymond, a cat who seems too posh to enjoy camping. My very last villager is a robot octopus, which is pretty damn cool. Honestly, they’re all pretty cool. And, because I found each of them and convinced them all to come to my shitty island, I got a handful of bells to go with it.
Somehow though, one animal slipped in. While I was plotting houses and looking at the camp site, some guy just turned up and claimed a house. Angus the Bull came along, somewhat ignoring my camp site and my Nook Miles stuff, grabbing him a beach-side home that was intended for a camp site person. I literally had no idea that someone had moved in, until Isabelle announced it. By then, it was too late for me to do anything about it. And because he came on his own, I didn’t get the 1000 bells cut I normally get for new villagers.
Of course, now that Angus is here, he doesn’t want to leave. Luckily, I have some amiibo card thingymajigs that I can use. But I’ll probably spend ages just trying to get rid of Angus to use the cool new characters.
Either way though, they’re all probably living rent-free. And if they are paying some sort of rent or whatever, it’s not me who is collecting it. I assume that the Nook family are taking the lion’s share of the rent money.
Meanwhile, Nook is still making money hand over fist. Between Nook and his kids, they are making fortunes from me and my work. Then again, the kids in the shop seem to buy anything I hand to them, which is a good thing. However, all this island business feels like some sort of money-laundering scheme. Or maybe a pyramid scheme. I don’t know. It’s all sketchy, however you look at it.
On the plus side, I do like all my other villagers. I may have an accidental pink colour scheme going on, but, well, I like it. Makes the place feel cozy and warm in the long winter months that are permanently covered in snow.
