Not A Fan of Modern Minecraft
Modern Minecraft is a pretty neat thing. It has traveled a long way, with thousands of new additions. Over time, it has become one of the most popular games on the planet, and even makes its way into education. Very few games can top just how popular Minecraft is. On top of that, Minecraft has had constant updates over the years, keeping it somewhat fresh and new.
However, I find I’m not a fan of modern Minecraft. Something about it just doesn’t sit right with me. I just don’t seem to enjoy it any more.
Busier Worlds
Minecraft is much more alive these days. We have more biomes, both in the Overworld and in the Nether. And these biomes are filled with many more creatures. It just used to be zombies, skeletons, creepers and spiders. Endermen tend to keep to themselves. But Modern Minecraft has way, way more enemies. There are multiple variants of zombies and skeletons that are more annoying than anything else. We have zombies that live in water and skeletons that live in deserts with hats on, and we also have multiple types of Pigmen, even if they’re not really called that any more.
We also have a bunch of massive buildings that spawn in as well. Woodland mansions for example. These massive places are filled with angry Illagers that do not take kindly to visitors. Villages are way more common, but only somewhat recently did they become unique and based on the biomes a village can spawn in.
While Minecraft does feel more alive, much of that alive-liness is also aggressive and wants to kill you.
Doesn’t really look Minecraft-y any more.
The really weird thing though, with modern Minecraft, is that it kinda loses its Minecraft-iness. A lot of things have been smoothed out, most notably the terrain. With recent updates, Minecraft stretches much further downwards and upwards. Vast depths, caves and more can be found below you, while mountains actually look like real life mountains in a way.
Somehow though, these more realistic heights and depths feel a little too realistic, and it somewhat clashes with smaller biomes. Underground, we get the same problem, but thankfully it’s dark down there and we can’t see anything anyway.
Illagers can fuck off
I don’t really mind most enemies in Minecraft. But there is something about Illagers that I don’t like. They just turn up to ruin your day, and if you kill some, you can get a debuff that will cause a raid to happen at your nearest village. Illagers aren’t just ugly but they’re genuinely dangerous too, as they have magic way beyond our human tools. Well, at least, they do until you’ve mined up materials for better gear.
I don’t like Villagers either, but at least they don’t cause raids of enemies to spawn. Also I can just trap villagers in their own homes so I don’t have to listen to them.
The peace and quiet are gone
At its core, Minecraft is still a wonderful game. I wish I could enjoy it more. Minecraft these days is a massively growing game still, and there’s so much more to do. But at the same time, everything seems much… louder, I guess.
Thankfully though, I can! Thanks to the Minecraft Launcher, I can just pick an older version of Minecraft and play that instead.
If there’s one great thing about Minecraft, it’s how accessible the game is. Very, very few games have old versions so easily and readily available for its user base to play with. In Minecraft’s case, we’ve got basically everything, and for that, I’m grateful.
