Everyone Has a Spot of Art in them

Every other Thursday, I join a small local group of people, and we all do some sort of arty thing. The arty thing (which I have referenced in the past) is both a small social event and a chance to make something nice. Normally, we all do something along the same theme. For example, we recently did some nice glass painting. But for one arty session, we were presented with a pile of art supplies and some nice, gloss card, perfect for making greetings cards. This time, we all let our creative juices flow, and they all flowed out in many creative ways.

Greetings Cards for all occasions

In this particular session, we were making cute little greetings cards. One of the group had brought in some nice, dried flower parts, someone else brought some little twigs. We also had buttons, pompom balls, fuzzy wire and more. But more importantly, aside from everyone really liking the dried stems, we had no actual theme to go by. We were just making cards for upcoming events in our schedules. One person did a birthday card, another did an anniversary, others did Valentines-like stuff. As for me, I think you can guess what I did.

Art in many forms

I think you can guess which card I made. Hint: it’s got a bad pun on it.

Anyway, my point is, we all went in different directions. And even when we did go along similar paths, what we ended up creating was still unique in its own way. The materials at hand were the same for everyone, and we all created something nice. And even when we went down similar paths, we all did so in our own way, adding our own fancy touch to the cards.

Art is completely subjective.

Seriously, it is. Literally anything can be considered art. And pretty much anything can be considered as not art as well. In fact, even creating art is subjective! Sure, while there are techniques one can learn to better themselves, what actually gets created can be enjoyed in some way or another. No matter how you look at it, the term “art” is nebulous and vast. Everyone sees art in a different way, but we all also create art in a different way. Some people work best with paint, others prefer pencils or pens.

My point is, anyone can get into art. Anyone can enjoy art or create art. And we all do so in vastly different ways, especially if we don’t consider ourselves artists on any level. Plus, viewing our art also creates a unique window into our souls, into what makes us tick. Doesn’t matter if you’re not the next Vincent Van Gogh or anything like that. The creativity opens up our souls and gives us a bit of fresh air.

I’m not going to get into all that NFT crap though. It’s a dumb trend that will probably burst and make everyone sad.

At the end of the day, the goal is to have fun.

Well, in the tiny art group, the goal is definitely having fun. And hot drinks and chatting. It’s just as much a social group as it is an art group, but it brings everyone together in a fun and enjoyable way. With these little get-togethers, it doesn’t matter what your art skill level is. As long as you can express yourself and have a good time, then everything is great.

Even if you think you suck at art, there’s always time and space to both explore and grow creatively.
