Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 21 – Finale

Hop wants a fight, but I want to rest up and improve my team. After all, I’m still using the same team I used to beat Leon, and half my Pokemon needed a pick-me-up. But now I’ve healed up and switched a few Pokemon around, I’m happy to go. Time to head back to the Slumbering Weald, where Hop has been looking around, playing with his new Legendary buddy.

So I head back to the Slumbering Weald and forget that Galarian Weezing hide in the grass around there. Luckily, to save walking through it all, Sonia is waiting for me, and we can just skip the whole maze-like area. Hop waits with anticipation and really, really wants to beat me. He’s failed to do so, but now he is in a clearer headspace, he thinks he has a better chance.

This time though, Hop does actually have a good, strong team. His weakness is mostly just having not many typing options. In his team, he has two normal types, two water types, a Corviknight and his new buddy Zacian. Out of the 18 types, he’s only really covered 6 types, and, aside from fairy and steel, not the best types to stack.

Anyway, time for battle. And, for a change, I started with Horny the Rhydon. Hop predictably starts with his Dubwool, which is level 69. Clearly Hop has done some level grinding of his own, and our Pokemon are mostly equal in level.

The fight itself was pretty normal. Aside from Hop mostly talking through it. His Dubwool and Pinurchin didn’t remain for very long, especially as Horny the Rhydon has a fighting move and the ability to cause earthquakes. Then, I considered keeping Horny out to deal with Snorlax. But considering how much damage Rhydon’s fighting move did to Dubwool (i.e. not enough for me), I switched Horny out and swapped him for Zamazenta. Who I nicknamed Good Boy, because, well, it’s a big shield doggo that protects others. I wanted to call Zamazenta Aspida (after the Greek word for Shield) but I’ve been told multiple times that the name sucks.

Back to Zamazenta and Snorlax. I noticed that Zamazenta was in Big Time Shield Mode already, so I just went for Behemoth Bash. Doing as much damage as possible. For reasons I can’t explain, my Zamazenta doesn’t have any fighting moves, despite being a fighting type.

After Snorlax gets its ass kicked, Hop then switches to Inteleon, and I bring out my own electric lizard, Tired the Toxtricity. Someone who I should update the name for, since Toxtricity is the amped up version. Normally, I’d bring out Grohl the Rillaboom to deal with Inteleon, but the last time I fought Hop, his Inteleon had an ice move that would really fuck Grohl up. Tired the Toxtricity doesn’t have the same problem and decides to nuke Inteleon with an electric move.

I then swap Tired for Charm the Salazzle, predicting that I’ll need the fire-type moves. I’m absolutely spot on when it comes to Hop’s Corviknight, and the poor blighter doesn’t stand a chance. However, Zacian is a much tougher cookie, especially since it’s in Badass Sword Doggo Mode. We end up with a weird back and forth using potions, but, weirdly enough, Salazzle isn’t the reason why Zacian faints. Zacian used the move Double-Edged and knocked itself out.

Celebration after winning
Celebration after winning. Oh, I forgot to mention, I bought myself some new clothes. After all, I’m the Champion, I need to look good.

After all of that though, Hop isn’t too upset. In fact, he’s actually come to terms with the fact that Leon and I are better Pokemon trainers, and Hop has realized that he just wants to help people. In order to do so, Hop decides that he wants to become a Professor, so he can help Pokemon all the time. It’s a very noble cause, and probably part of the reason why Zacian allowed Hop to catch him.

Hop chatting

We’re then met by Piers, Leon and those two twunts from my previous article. The two twunts apologise, and rescind their claim to the Galar throne, claiming that I should be the queen of Galar. Which is stupid, but oh well. Piers and Leon both congratulate me again, then also congratulate Hop on his new career path. Sonia, who has been here the entire time, actually offers a job to Hop right there, asking if he wants to be her assistant. Hop says yes, feeling very happy. Everyone heads off, back to town, and everything is good and propper.

So that’s it. A happy ending for everyone. Well, I say everyone, we have no idea what will happen to Galar. After all, its biggest celebrity and leader, Rose, had turned himself in after causing a second Darkest Day. But for little champion Retvik? Well, there’s a Pokedex, waiting to be filled. There are also two DLCs, but screw it, I don’t want to play them.

My Hall of Fame team
My Hall of Fame team. From left to right: Hornier the Rhydon, Aaby the Lapras, Grohl the Rillaboom (and my starter), Charm the Salazzle, Yawn the Shiinotic and Thwack the Machoke.

Playing Pokemon Shield though has been very cool, and I can better understand why other people play them. It’s been a fun ride, despite the fact that I punched my way through pretty much every trainer and boss. But now I think it’s time to play something else. As to what I’ll play? Who knows? I’m always open to suggestions…
