A Pirate Legend?

The other day, I finally hit a cool target while playing Sea of Thieves. I reached rank 50 with the Merchants, the third level 50 rank I needed to become a Pirate Legend. However, I… don’t really… feel like a Pirate Legend? It’s hard to explain, especially since I haven’t been playing that long.

Or maybe I have been playing for that long. I already have 100 hours played in Sea of Thieves. Bloody hell, the time flies. I still feel like a newbie though. Despite being a pirate legend. And being at level 50 for three separate emissaries.

I dunno. I feel like I hit Pirate Legend too easily. Something just feels off. It’s like I don’t feel worthy of the rank yet, but also the rank of Pirate Legen feels kinda… newbie-ish? Like it’s the first step to something bigger.

The question is, what IS this bigger thing? It’s certainly not a new rank. Pirate Legend isn’t honestly that hard to obtain. Levelling up Emissaries is very simple. It’s a long, drawn out quest, but eventually doable no matter what. As long as you play regularly, the Pirate Legend is reachable just by playing the game. You end up selling loot no matter what, but eventually you reach rank 50 in the Emissaries anyway, even if you don’t specifically farm for them.

But what does being a Pirate Legend even mean? In the past, it apparently took forever to level things up. So becoming a Pirate Legend back then had way more clout. As new content gets added though, it becomes easier and easier to become a Pirate Legend. Heck, I have seen youtube videos where people get Pirate Legend in as little as a day. Then again, playing that hardcore isn’t a common thing.

It also seems odd being a Pirate Legend since I’m, well, not a great pirate. My close quarters combat is pretty damn bad, and only half my cannon balls actually hit anything. At least I am better at fishing, but fishing isn’t really a pirate thing. And, well, it’s a peaceful activity, which is why I leave fishers alone. They’re not hurting anyone. Then again, I barely hurt anyone either.

If anything, becoming a Pirate Legend is just a step towards becoming a stronger pirate. Heck, wearing the Pirate Legend clothes and cosmetics is considered a somewhat newbie-ish thing to do. The Pirate Legend gear does look cool, but it’s oddly mostly purple with gold trimmings. And I swear the ship decorations don’t quite match the colours of the Pirate Legend clothes.

Even the title isn’t that amazing. There are way better titles out there for doing way less.

I think, really, it’s just the name itself that seems weird. Who am I a legend to? Everyone in the Sea of Thieves is a pirate and many of them are Pirate Legends. It feels… Too easy.

Yeah, that’s it. Becoming a Pirate Lord should be a dangerous and exciting adventure. But in reality, it’s just getting to know a bunch of traders very well. Why ISN’T there any additional treasure hunting, wreck-exploring and other pirate-y things required to become a Pirate Legend?

Oh well. At least the Pirate Legend clothes are cool, even if they’re a bit bright…
