It Should Have Been Ramsey

So a while back, we went into Ramsey’s office, only to see the word GUILTY scribbled across the walls. The Pirate Lord seemed completely unaware of this, and was just chilling out there. The signs all pointed towards a murder mystery, the case of the death of DeMarco, Ramsey’s son.

Surely Ramsey can see this too? He seems not at all bothered by any of this.

From this picture, it seemed as if Ramsey had definitely done something wrong and was somehow connected to the death of his son, perhaps killing his son himself. This was all part of a murder mystery event, somewhat spurred on via Twitter. And, after a few weeks, we uncovered the truth and discovered who had killed DeMarco.

Turns out, it was the Siren Queen.

“Who?”

Me being a newer player, I have no fucking clue who the Siren Queen is. I mean, I can guess at what she does, but as far as I’m concerned, I have no idea why she would do this. Did she have some sort of beef with DeMarco in particular? Apparently she did it because the Siren Queen wasn’t happy about pirates and mermaids working together peacefully. But what does DeMarco have to do with any of that? All he did was run the old pirate arenas, he didn’t seem like a political guy.

What makes matters stranger is that, well, this person is a complete stranger to many of us. A character that seems to have nothing to do with anything. I mean, she doesn’t even have any legs. How the fuck did she get into Ramsey’s office, scribble shit on the walls and leave, with no one noticing her?

And, most importantly, why did Ramsey not seem to care?

Should have been Ramsey.

I mean, the evidence is all there. He had an uneasy relationship with his kids, being a mostly absent father. And when DeMarco died, Ramsey had nothing to say on the subject, while other related NPCs did. Surely the Pirate Lord would have a LOT to say about his now dead son. Why does he say nothing? Did Ramsey not love his son?

Then there’s the literal writing on the wall. Writing that can only be seen with DeMarco’s old lantern.

At the very least, Ramsey would have paid someone else to do the dirty work. Heck, he could have paid the Siren Queen to kill him. It just overall seems to make more sense than the bollocks we’ve been told so far.

SHE’S ALREADY DEAD!

Yep, turns out, this queen is actually already dead. Apparently, she was killed by us in one of the tall tales. I get that life and death are a bit hazy in the Sea of Thieves, but I’m pretty sure that dead sirens don’t get the same liberties as dead pirates do. Dead sirens just die, while many of us pirates appear on the ferry of the damned, then return to the open seas.

This also brings up another question. Lesedi and DeMarco are the children of Ramsey. Did he not teach them how to become ghosts or anything like that? Ramsey is only technically dead, and has a huge amount of power at his disposal. Yet he didn’t let his kids have any of it. Both of them are very much mortal, and I have no idea if they are capable of taking the ferry like we do.

This is all fucking stupid.

I was just hoping that we’d have some genuine intrigue in this murder mystery. This was a chance to REALLY shake things up in the Sea of Thieves. Even if it wasn’t Ramsey, it could have been someone close to him, or perhaps a brand new enemy, as an introduction to something more. Just imagine, Ramsey is concerned that his son might leave the Sea of Thieves, or maybe DeMarco threatened to expose Ramsey’s past failures. Maybe DeMarco was considering revolting against his father, and Ramsey put an early stop to that? All these ideas offer conflict and are actually interesting. As opposed to the killer being some rando water girl who was upset that mermaids were peaceful with humans.

The murder mystery could have gone in so many cool ways, completely giving an amazing chance to do something new and daring. But no, we got a retarded conclusion that made no sense at all.
