Several Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Run Away in Sea of Thieves

When you’re sailing on the Sea of Thieves, there’s always a ton of adventure to be had. From looting ghost forts to finding lost relics, there’s plenty of gold and treasure to be had. However, you’re rarely ever alone, and an enemy ship could turn up at any moment. While some people see an enemy ship as an opportunity, most pirates we encounter try to run away and flee. But that’s the worst thing you can do.

Here are several reasons as to why you should fight back, rather than run away.

It’s quicker

If someone is pursuing you, they are almost certainly going to try and kill you. You can sail to the ends of the earth and they’ll keep on chasing. But really, you’re only wasting your own time. When a ship is committed to the chase, they’re not going to give up. Why would they, when all they need to do is wait for you to make a mistake. You hit a sandbank, or you don’t properly catch the wind, that’s it, you’re done. However, if you had just started fighting back from the very start, you could have saved yourself plenty of time on a new ship if you sink.

In fact, fleeing might actually make other ships want to kill you more. If you run away, it’s easy to assume that you have something worth stealing, that you’ve got some good loot. Even if you don’t have any treasure at all, they’ll still chase you, because they want you dead.

We don’t always care about loot

A lot of aggressive ships don’t even care that you’ve got any loot or not. We just want to hunt down and kill things, as Reapers normally do. For the average Reaper’s Bones emissary, the real money and fame is in obtaining the flags of other emissaries. Heck, we’ll even go after other Reapers if the mood takes us. Any loot that you happened to have is just icing on the top of the cake.

And with the new captains logs, the “we have no loot” argument disappears entirely. That one book is enough of a reason to come and fight you. But still, we really don’t care if you don’t have loot. It’s the thrill of the hunt. In fact, constantly chasing and harassing your prey is how early humans used to hunt. They’d just follow menacingly until their prey got exhausted and gave up, or not having anywhere else to go.

You might actually survive

The biggest reason why you should fight back is that you might win. Seriously, if you fight back, perhaps you can turn the tables on your pursuers. Running away leads to an inevitable fight as soon as they catch up to you, which they eventually will. However, not only will fighting back throw off attackers, there’s a chance you can change the tides in your favour and actually kill your pursuers. In fact, you won’t just survive, you’ll prove to be a superior pirate. And maybe get some cool loot out of it all.

And really, why not go out with a bang? Turning around and facing your enemy is way cooler than running away.
