Medic Plays Pokemon Violet – Part 7

Okay so I’ve been a tad busy. I found and caught a Gible, and immediately I wanted to level the little bastard up, because, well, I don’t have a dragon type on my team yet. But also, a little birdy told me that I might need a ground type in a bit. That’s because I’m heading off to the electric gym on the other side of the world map. All those Pokecenters were well worth walking to.

But before I go in with just one ground type, I consider bringing something else too. A second ground type. There were wild Dugtrios hanging around on the northern side of Levincia so I headed there to catch a few things. The wild Dugtrios were a pain in the ass to catch and I ended up just murdering most of them instead. The same applies to the Bagon I caught, which basically knocked itself out.

I ended up not taking a second ground type. I just brought Ringo, who is resistant to electricity at least.

I also end up meeting Nemona. She’s been quite elusive, but that’s because I’m more interested in filling the pokedex and going after titans than I am battling. But as soon as she discovers that we’re at the electric gym, Nemona basically demands a battle, even when I say no.

Unfortunately for me, I haven’t swapped my Pokemon around properly, so my Flaffle the Houndoom gets beaten up by a nice water type. In order to get some revenge for Flaffle, I bring out Ringo, who sweeps Nemona’s team with ease. I didn’t bother terastalizing (or whatever it’s called) and frankly I haven’t really needed it yet.

But before I can go back and do my gym battle, I have to do the gym challenge. This is where things get a little weird. You see, Iono, the electric gym boss, is a stereotypical streamer. And before I can battle her, I have to do her weird challenge. That challenge? Using the master of the Uva Academy to play hide and seek. Yeah that’s kinda weird. It’s three games of hide and seek, with a battle with a pokemaniac in between each find and seek game.

This goes on for a little too long. Not because it’s hard, but because I have to tap through all Iono’s streamer babble.

Anyway, with that done, I can finally actually do the gym battle. And I start off with a (currently nameless) Gabite. Except her first Pokemon is flying/electric, so I can’t actually use my ground type Pokemon to actually do, well, anything. Luckily, all is not lost, and I just use Dragon Breath to kill it. The Luxio that comes into play however gets bulldozed to death.

Up next is a Bellibolt and I have no idea what it is or what it does. It doesn’t seem very electric-y, it’s basically a fat lump that seems to gain power every time it gets hit. The Bellibolt does kill my Gabite, but yet again Ringo comes in and finishes off both the Bellibolt and a Mismagius which makes itself an electric type. I’m not sure how that Mismagius would have been improved by becoming an electric type, but Ringo had a dark move for it anyway.

So that’s it for the gym battle, it was pretty easy.

I earn my gym badge and the respect of miss streamer egirl, then get ready to move on. Not before someone called Greeta catches me before I leave the gym. She says she’s in charge of the whole gym system, and is curious about me. Frankly she seems suspicious, because she says she’ll see me later, and she did seem pretty grumpy.

For a change, I go back to the academy, for no real reason. Well, I guess for immersion reasons. I do a few lessons, speak to a few teachers and go sleep, but not after eating a bad sandwich.

Why is this game obsessed with sandwiches?

Anyway, time to go back out to the wilderness. I have Pokemon to catch.
