On Purifying 100 Pokemon

When I managed to get to level 44 in Pokemon GO, I was interested to see what I needed to reach level 45. Turns out, I have a MASSIVE experience grind to get to level 45. Just need another 11 million experience. However, the three level 45 challenges all felt pretty good to me. Beat 100 grunts, beat 50 leaders and purify 100 Pokemon. While I beat 100 grunts very quickly, and am half way through beating the Team Rocket leaders, the purifying task is a little daunting.

I mean, I’ve just completed the task to purify 100 Pokemon, but it wasn’t particularly fun. I had to have some strategy though, because purification costs are a doozy. Anything above 5000 stardust is ignored, because it’s simply to much. I also hesitated on a lot of 3000 stardust Pokemon for the same reason. Do I really want to waste stardust on useless Pokemon like Snubbull? A Pokemon that I am going to transfer anyway? Well, the answer to that question is, sadly, yes. I purified every 1000 stardust Pokemon, but also plenty of 3000 stardust Pokemon too.

And, what makes matters worse, I didn’t keep a single one of those purified Pokemon. There’s no reason to. They don’t do anything except look pretty, with their white aura effect.

I’m not saying that I don’t have purified Pokemon. I have a nice hundo Aggron which I purified and will use as a mega. At least, before mega Metagross comes. I happen to have a Metagross that is purified and has 100% IVs and is ready to be mega evolve. Since shadow Pokemon can’t become megas, purified Pokemon have a slight use as a slightly easier way to get a Pokemon with 100% IVs. Or close to it. Then again, Lucky Pokemon do the same thing and have a higher stardust reduction.

A 100% IVs purified Beedrill
A 100% IVs purified Beedrill. It’s one of several Beedrills who I can Mega Evolve if I wish.

I also do have some Pokemon that were purified before the massive boost to shadow Pokemon. That is why I have a purified, 100% IVs Metagross in the first place. It doesn’t have Return on it, but that’s fine, because Return is only good on a handful of Pokemon, and Metagross has Meteor Mash already. The same applies to many of my purified Pokemon, Return gets removed from them because they can get moves that do more damage.

And then we have shadow Legendary Pokemon. Which we must never purify because of the 20% bonus damage from being a shadow Pokemon. We are soon to get shadow Registeel, which sounds cool on paper but doesn’t really work because Registeel’s most notable thing IS its sky high defense. The boost to attack is just not worth it for PvP.

Still, at least some of my purified Pokemon are okay. I mean, if it’s something crap like a Purloin and putifying it makes it have 100% IVs, I might as well do it.

Sadly, none of the purified Pokemon I’ve rescued lately have been very good. I just purified and transferred all of them, because they were useless.

Frankly, I just wasted a fuckton of stardust on these Pokemon. So I am glad that the purifying 100 Pokemon challe ge is over now. Instead I’ll just be deleting shadows again. Oh well.
