Medic Plays Pokemon Violet – Part 8

It’s been a while, but I’ve finally leveled up my Pokemon to an acceptable level and caught a bunch of unrelated Pokemon, and it’s time to actually do some story stuff. Instead of doing gyms though, I decided to focus on doing titans, in order to make my Miraidon stronger and more mobile.

However, the last time I faced a titan, it beat the crap out of my under-leveled Pokemon and I had to run away. This time, I’m coming prepared. Both of the titans I am about to fight are steel types, meaning I’ll need fighting types. Can’t use fire though because these bastards are both ground types as well. Because of course.

I actually already had a fighting type in my party, a Lucario I caught early on. But I wanted a second one, just in case it got ground-moved to death. However, since I’m not familiar with the new Pokedex, I ended up relying on Pokemon I knew were fighting types. I first decided to try with Mankey, but I was too lazy to level it up to 37 to get a Primeape. So instead I decided to catch a Makuhita and evolve it into a Hariyama. A nice, big, chunky fighting type, ready to fight.

All of a sudden, while I’m leveling stuff up, My Ringo evolves into Meowscarada. And in doing so, Ringo learns an utterly broken move called Flower Trick. It never misses AND it’s always a crit. Bloody hell.

In fact, Ringo’s new move is so good that I manage to beat the Lurking Steel Titan with just Ringo. I didn’t need Lucario OR Hariyama. At all. The Lurking Titan is a giant wormy thing called Orthworm and it’s both cute and pretty harmless. It just burrows around and goes from place to place, before heading into a cave and eating some magic plant.

Look at it! Isn't it cute?

Either way, I easily beat the Lurking Titan, with a little help from Arven. I genuinely feel bad for Arven because his best friend is old and tired. His buddy is so weak, but the herbs have been helping it. Sure, Arven doesn’t like Miraidon but I’d be miffed at Miraidon if it kept on trying to eat your magic sandwiches.

So with one titan down, I head to the desert and meet something I’ve already met. The Quaking Earth Titan though is a whole new thing on its own, a weird, metal version of the Pokemon Donphan. The first time I encountered it was also the first time that I’ve ever lost a battle in a main series Pokemon game. Although that’s more because Pokemon Shield was so easy. Anyway, it’s time for a second battle and…

Well, Ringo kicks its ass. Despite Ringo’s grass moves not being very effective, I end up just Flower-Tricking Iron Treads to death. Again, Arven helps, and his Pokemon does super effective damage, which is nice. Normally NPCs have Pokemon that don’t fit at all, but Arven does actually help a little.

Sadly, the herba mystica from this guy doesn’t do much for Arven’s companion. However, it gives Miraidon the power of gliding! Which is pretty fucking cool. The glide isn’t amazing though and there’s a weird drop-off from it. But that’s not going to stop me from finding a cliff to jump off and see how far I can glide. And with the Lurking and Quaking titans defeated, there’s only one titan left. I just have no idea where it is.

Unfortunately, I seem to be over-leveling Ringo. So I think it’s time to maybe take on a gym or two, so my buddies can all get a turn to play…
