Medic Plays Pokemon Violet – Part 10

So I’m now here in Medali, working my way towards the Normal Badge. It’s taken me a while to actually get here, mostly because I have been avoiding Nemona. The last time I saw her, she appeared in the Medali gym and had just finished it. She wanted to fight, but had the wrong Pokemon, so Nemoma dashed off and left me alone. Before I could do anything else though, I need to do the gym challenge.

What’s weird is that this gym challenge is food-based, kinda like the Water Gym. But this time, I have to find a bunch of trainers and beat them up for clues. No, seriously, that’s what I had to do. I needed to order a special meal in one of the restaurants in Medali, and what I had to order was given to other trainers, who I needed to beat before they have up their clues.

Frankly, I could have just brute-forced this. I only found two clues, but the options were easy enough to just guess. There’s no punishment in guessing anyway, so it doesn’t matter. What’s even more weird was that the gym battle arena just suddenly opens up in the middle of the restaurant, making us ready to fight.

Look how sad he is!

What follows is probably the most depressing gym battles I’ve ever done.

Seriously, this poor man doesn’t have the energy to even smile. Scruffy hair, boardroom suit, holding a battered suitcase. I don’t even know what this guy does. Apparently he works at the restaurant but he’s not wearing the same clothes as all the other workers. Maybe he’s a sales rep or something.

Anyway, there is an actual hint of challenge here because I’m using a Lucario, and a Dundunsparce almost certainly will have a ground attack. In fact, that’s basically what happens. Komala is a pushover and Dundunsparce leaves Lucario crippled before dying. The last Pokemon is a Staraptor which teralizes into the Normal type. I decide to use my rock-based Lycanroc to finish off the Staraptor, since it had both fighting and rock moves. Takes a while because I forget that terastalized Staraptor is a normal type, not a flying type, but I win anyway. Amusingly, just before I fight the Staraptor, I get a prompt to learn a new move, which I skip for now.

The guy is still depressed and I frankly don’t beat him. But he is kind enough to buy some lunch after he’s given me a TM and the normal badge.

Afterwards, back at the gym building, I’m met by someone called Geeta, or La Primera, just as Nemona arrives to challenge me to a battle. Nemona explains that La Primera is the top champion, the champion of champions. And she’s scouting for talent. Nemona claims that she found me first and wants to make a champion out of me. Either way, we head outside and La Primera wants to watch our battle. She quickly heals my Pokemon, and we can get started.

I don’t get a chance to change my Pokemon positions (I normally have Ringo as my first Pokemon but had Lucario as my first for the gym battle), but that doesn’t seem to matter. And just like in the gym battle, one of my other Pokemon wants to learn a move. Good thing that it’s so easy to change attacks in Violet.

Either way, my Lucario chews through Nemona’s first few Pokemon, and I only swap it out when it comes to Nemona’s last Pokemon. The duck-like water type thing, whatever it’s called. I swap out to Ringo the Meowscarada, and we both Terastalize. And because neither of us have fancy options, we both terastalize into our own types.

Not that it matters. One Flower Trick and the blue duck thing is defeated. Frankly this battle was way easier than the gym challenge, and I didn’t even prepare for this.

As to what I’ll be doing next, I’m not quite sure. There is a titan wandering around somewhere, as well as some more gym badges to earn…
