Togetic Community Day

On Saturday 15th, we had a rather odd community day. Rather than featuring a basic Pokemon, we got a first evolution. Togetic is an unusual Pokemon that has a baby form, Togepi. It then evolves into the Pokemon equivalent of a stealth jet. But was the community day any good?

Well, it’s a yes and a no.

When it comes to shinies, it’s a bit of a mess. Togetic’s shiny is actually very easy to miss. Several times I clicked on a shiny and nearly backed out because it didn’t look shiny at first glance. If it wasn’t for the sparkle effect, I would have missed them entirely. Really, the whole Togetic family has a hard-to-see shiny. Togepi wasn’t easy to get either, since it was in eggs. Sure, we had 1/4 hatch distance, but you need to get rid of eggs before you can get your hands on an egg with Togepi in it. I was stuck with too many higher tier eggs to be able to get eggs with Togepi in them.

It was a nice opportunity to get rid of some old 12km eggs though. They had been sitting in my egg inventory for a while. I actually managed to hatch a female Salandit, which is nice. Sadly it has crap stats but at least I can evolve it.

But what about the move? Every community day comes with a special move, and a 1320 coin box with an Elite TM in it, but was the move any good? Again, it’s a yes and a no. Togekiss’s special move is Aura Sphere, the move Lucario is better known for.

For PvE and raids, the answer is basically a no. Togekiss is a great fairy type, but Aura Sphere is a fighting move, so Togekiss doesn’t get STAB on it. The move is a strong one, but you might as well use Dazzling Gleam, a fairy type move. At the same time though, anywhere where you can use a fairy, using something else is better. Are you fighting a dragon type? Ice and dragon Pokemon do more damage. Battling a fighting type? Psychic damage is far superior. Having one Togekiss is alright but there is no reason to build a team of six of them.

When it comes to PvP though, Aura Sphere is a great move. Togekiss already has a good collection of moves, but Aura Sphere means Togekiss can nicely damage its main weakness, steel types. That being said, Togekiss already has access to Flamethrower, which does already deal with steel types. Aura Sphere does do a bit more damage though, which is nice. Either way, Togekiss already has a lot of coverage moves. But as it’s best played in Master League, there are more threats that Togekiss has to deal with, so if you want to use Togekiss, you need to power it up. And if you want a cheap second move, make sure to give Togepi a second move, because it is a baby and second moves are cheaper on baby Pokemon.

Overall, this community day was a bit all over the place. We ended up with an alright move on a Pokemon with a mediocre shiny. But at least it was easy to get tons of stardust and candy, since Togetic is a first stage Pokemon. And stardust and easy candy are always a good thing.
