Hatching Eggs Sucks
Hatching eggs in Pokemon GO is a tedious thing. You spend ages walking around and an egg hatches and, most of the time, it’s nothing good. The last ten eggs I’ve hatched have all given me nothing good. But let’s look deeper into why eggs suck so much.
Basically, to put things into TF2 terms, eggs are crates, and incubators are keys. While you do get one free and infinite incubator, having just the one makes hatching eggs take a long time. It requires a lot of walking to hatch one egg, with the longer it needs to walk, the better the rewards. Basically, 2km and 5km eggs give you common crap that you often see spawning in the wild, 7km eggs give you regional Pokemon from Galar, Alola or Hisui, 10km eggs give rare stuff and 12km eggs are a scam that gives you common crap half the time and a rare chance at something good.
Except, most of the time, you don’t get anything good at all. All the good stuff is made to be rare, so that you go out and hatch more eggs. The current rarest thing to hatch is Larvesta, which only exists in eggs and only exists as the rarest thing you can hatch from eggs. Sure, Larvesta is in 2km, 5km and 10km eggs but it is INSANELY rare. To make matters worse, Larvesta requires 400 candy to evolve. Since it came out, I have hatched one Larvesta and my brother hasn’t hatched any at all.
The stardust isn’t really worth it either. It used to be worse though – Pokemon that give boosted stardust like Audino actually give less when hatched from an egg, while also kinda wasting your time. It really sucks walking 10km and hatching an Audino or, worse, an Emolga, and getting a smattering of stardust. You get more stardust by hatching higher tier eggs, but frankly it’s quicker and easier to catch Pokemon. Heck, you can just lose GBL matches if you want quick stardust right now.
It wouldn’t be so bad if you could just delete eggs. That way, people would be able to choose what eggs they want to keep and want to hatch. As of writing, my egg inventory is full of 5km eggs, none of which have anything interesting in them. The ONLY way to have some control over what eggs you have requires NOT playing the game! If you don’t want, for example, any 7km eggs, you have to avoid opening gifts until you have no more egg slots available. But if you don’t want, for another example, 5km eggs, then you just have to avoid spinning Pokestops and Gyms until you fill your egg inventory.
But Niantic won’t ever change eggs. Getting them to add a rarity system was a massive thing that took years to actually add. Eggs make Niantic a lot of money because you HAVE to buy incubators if you want to clear out your eggs. Still, I don’t get why people go crazy over hatching eggs. Most of the time, you just get something crap anyway.
