Halloween Ends on 8pm in Pokemon GO

Halloween is generally a big thing. While I spent my Halloween on my own, sitting in pain and crying, many people went out, put costumes and ate tons of candy. Whether they went from door to door or went to a party, they had fun and probably stayed out past 8pm. People with little kids probably didn’t stay out too late, but it was Halloween, the day where most people DID stay out. Not for Pokemon GO though. The Halloween event they had (which included a Rocket Takeover event too) decided to end at 8pm. At exactly 8pm, all the ghosts and spooky Pokemon disappeared, leaving us with, well, seasonal crap. The cool bonuses abruptly ended and everything went back to normal, including the orange Pokestops going back to being blue, and the Lavender Town remix going away.

This seems really early, especially since Halloween itself was supposed to have a special bonus event. Catching costumed Pokemon was supposed to give you a chance of getting a Rare Candy or a Rare Candy XL as well. Supposed to. The chances of actually getting any candy were insanely low, to the point where you might as well not have bothered. Weirdly, instead of this bonus starting from midnight, the bonus started from 10am and lasted until 8pm, not including a 1 hour break for the Yamask spotlight hour, which massively decreased the spawns of costumed Pokemon. This was supposed to be how the (admittedly rather long) Halloween event was supposed to end, with a cool, Halloween-themed bonus, but this bonus might as well not have existed. Apparently the drop chance was 1/75, which is absurd, even to a hardcore player.

Really though, Pokemon GO’s Halloween event went on for way too long. Part 1 was pointless and part 2 was only good because of the Team Rocket Takeover. And the Team Rocket Takeover was pretty shit because, despite the number of new shadow Pokemon, they were so insanely rare that, well, again, you might as well not have bothered. It’s as if Niantic knew their Halloween event was kinda lame and stuck the Team Rocket stuff in to bolster it. After the event, I managed to get two of the new shadow Pokemon, Gastly and Litwick. And the Litwick came from a shadow raid, not a Team Rocket fight.

What’s even weirder is that Pokemon GO had a Day of the Dead event that lasted, well, barely a day, immediately after Halloween ended. Why couldn’t we have had a shorter Halloween and a longer Day of the Dead? It was nice to get a Cubone in a costume but bloody hell that event was short.

Still, the abrupt ending at 8pm on the 31st was so weird. The actual day of Halloween happened to be the shortest and the most pointless. The day where people are actually staying up late. It’s a really weird end to a Halloween event. really, it’s a weird end to any event that’s also a national holiday or the like. I suppose at least we have the Festival of Light and Fashion Week to cheer us up.
