The Skull of Siren Song

For the second part of Season 10 in Sea of Thieves, we’ve got a new voyage. Or world event. I’m not really sure. The Skull of Siren Song is a new thing which can give you lots of money, while also inviting other crews to battle with you. While it is basically a voyage with two treasure maps, the voyage pops up in the middle of nowhere, attached to your mast for you to accept. When you accept the quest for the Skull of Siren Song, Captain Briggsy, of Tall Tale fame, appears, asking you to find the Skull of Siren Song for her, and deliver it to her on an island.

It’s not that simple though. You get two treasure maps, one with the chest containing the skull, and one containing the key for the chest. These are located on different islands, and you can’t tell which one is which. All ships on the server who accept the voyage get the same maps. When you dig up either the key or the chest, it is announced to everyone doing the voyage, and a beam of energy, similar to that of a Reaper Chest, appears. You are also marked on the map.

Once you put the key and chest together though and reveal the Skull of Siren Song, everything changes. You’re still marked, but your ship is also slowed down as well. This gives nearby ships an easier chance to catch up to you. You now must take the skull to an island marked on your map and in the sky with a purple and blue spiral cloud thing, and deliver the skull to Briggsy in person. She’ll be waiting for you impatiently on the island, calling out to you. Deliver the skull to her and you get 50K, as well as her jacket, if it’s your first time.

What’s interesting about this voyage though is how you can approach it. Sometimes, you’ll get the skull completely uncontested. Other times, the whole server will be trying to get that skull to Briggsy. Sometimes traditional sinking is the way to go when you only have the chest or key, but sometimes it’s also fun to leap onto a ship, hit their anchor, grab their key or chest then run away. In other cases, it might be better to just go straight to the island where Briggsy is, in order to catch another ship unaware. Heck, you can hide out on the island itself, right where Briggsy is waiting, ready to attack just before a crew can hand in the skull.

Funnily enough, if you get sunk on this voyage, you actually find yourself respawning really close to Briggsy’s island. This means that sinking isn’t always the optimal path, sometimes it’s just better to hold them off or go with distractions, rather than going with outright combat.

As to why Briggsy wants these skulls? No idea. The same reason why Briggsy is now suddenly a ghost. She was a skeleton, which we killed, but apparently someone managed to get enough of her memories together to turn her into a ghost via the Sea of the Damned. What this has to do with a random skull that shoots blasts of energy, no one really knows. But that being said, Briggsy clearly got some work done, since she’s looking better than ever. Assuming it even is the real Briggsy and not someone imitating her.

Still, the whole voyage is a bit weird, but it is pretty fun. Just depends on how you tackle it.
