On Nundos

In Pokemon GO and Pokemon in general, most people want a Pokemon with perfect stats. A lot of people call these Pokemon ‘Hundos’, because they have 100% IVs, the maximum in every stat. Now, Hundos are technically pretty rare, and they’re mostly luck-based. While there are ways to increase your chances at getting a Hundo (via Research, doing lots of raids and getting Lucky Trades), there’s technically something a lot rarer than a Hundo: a Nundo. A Pokemon with 0% IVs. And I secretly love these guys.

Checking my Pokemon GO storage, I have about 100 Pokemon with perfect IVs. Quite a few of these are Purified Pokemon, mostly things like Wobuffet and crap that I’m never going to use as a Shadow Pokemon anyway. I also have a few purified Pokemon that I already have amazing shadow versions of, that I use for Mega Evolutions, like Venusaur and Beedrill. Okay, sure, yes, I have a 100% Purified Metagross, but I purified that before Shadow Pokemon were made OP. Either way, there are ways to boost perfect Pokemon chances, and I’m definitely one to take them. Even if it means purifying a Natu.

However, on the flip side, there are no ways to increase the chances of finding a Nundo. It’s completely random. In fact, despite the fact that I collect them and have been playing since August 2018, I’ve only ever found 10 Nundos. Granted, the Nundos I have are actually pretty impressive. I’ve got a Gengar, Sceptile and Salamence, all with their legacy moves, and I’m patiently waiting for Metagross’s Meteor Mash to come back, so I can evolve this Beldum. Unfortunately, I missed out on Chespin and Mareep, but when those come back (Ampharos comes back a lot), I’ll evolve those too.

That being said, I haven’t really powered them up much, but that’s kinda because they don’t go very high. I did this comparison when I talked about Hundos VS Nundos, using two Ferrothorns I found, one at 100% and one at 0% and the difference in CP when maxed out was huge – about 400CP difference. And looking at my freshly caught 0% Beldum, the CP difference between it and my three 100% Metagrosses is similar. In fact, I have a 0% Bronzor that I considered powering up for Little League (which contained non-evolved Pokemon only, below 500CP) and that Bronzer doesn’t even get CLOSE to 500CP, despite wild 500CP+ Bronzors definitely being a thing.

Still, these bastards are rare. There is no way to guarantee catching a 0% Pokemon, nor is there a way to increase your chances of catching one. The only way to actively hunt nundos is to catch every single non-weatherboosted Pokemon you see, check the stats of every Pokemon you catch and hope that you see one. Admittedly, chances are, I may have deleted a nundo by accident, mostly because I often just sort by 0*-2* and just mass delete everything I see, especially on Community Days. But at the same time, two of my nundos came from Community Days, where I immediately evolved them.

There are also a lot of Pokemon where getting a nundo is strictly impossible. Outside of wild Legendaries (the Spirits of the Lake mostly), all Legendaries, Pokemon from raids and research and Pokemon that hatch from eggs have the minimum stats 9/9/9, while shadow Legendary Pokemon have base stats of 6/6/6. Weatherboosted Pokemon also have minimum stats of 4/4/4. So if you are really serious about hunting nundos, there are things you can avoid.

That being said though, these guys are rare, so I cherish them. Even if they are, to put it politely, crap.
