Stupid Bird Event

I normally like research days. But the problem is, you’re always completely limited by how many Pokestops there are near you. And right now, there are only 20 Pokestops near me, that I can be bothered to walk to. I could get in my car and drive down to the harbour, but today, the wind is hot, the sun is burning and it’s tourist season now and I don’t want to walk among large crowds.

But the thing is, we don’t even really get interesting birds. The only interesting one is Rufflet, which isn’t very useful, but I don’t have a shiny of it yet. Everything else is meh. The research rewards were any of the following: Rufflet, Hoothoot, Taillow, Spearow or Doduo. None of it very useful. I mean, I say that Rufflet and Doduo were in the research, but out of the 20 tasks I did, I didn’t get either of them. I got 10 Hoothoots, 9 Taillows and 1 Spearow. The common crap that I can’t use anyway. I would have liked a single Rufflet because I don’t have a particularly good Braviary, but I got fuck all. Sure, Hoothoot’s evolution has a use in PvP but you don’t want research reward IVs for it, because it’s only used in Great League. And I have shinies of all of those anyway.

Not that I got a shiny. The chances were supposed to be 1/10. So I kinda hoped I’d get one shiny, any shiny, in the 20 research tasks I did. Nope, nothing. I guess I ruined my luck by getting a shiny Diglett before the event started. The best thing I got was a 14/14/15 Hoothoot. Nothing else was even worth keeping.

The wild spawns weren’t much better. We got Pidove, Pidgey, Starly, Fletchling and the odd Wingull and Pikipek. All common crap Pokemon that no one wants or already has tons of. But, weirdly, the flying spawns were kinda low. There were definitely points where I was waiting for flying types to spawn. And I had windy weather, which weatherboosted all the flying type spawns. At first, I was seeing more Kanto Pokemon than I was any of the flying Pokemon that were SUPPOSED to be spawning in the event. I’d say about 40% of the total spawns were event spawns?

Thing is, the other spawns were all mostly just Kanto spawns. I did get a Frigibax and a Noibat (the two best things I caught in the event overall) but I swear, I saw more Zangooses, Heatmors and Sawks during my 2 hour walk than I did during the fucking Rivals event! You know, the event where these rival regional Pokemon were supposed to spawn! What the fuck is up with that?

We also had Flying showcases, but they were utterly pointless unless you had multiple Celesteelas. Literally none of the Pokemon from the event would even come close to any of the biggest Flying type Pokemon in general. An XXL Gyarados or Rayquaza might have stood a chance, but Celesteela was literally the only option if you wanted to win. Which sucks because Celesteela was only available in the southern hemisphere not too long ago and getting raids for it was nigh impossible.

So yeah. Normally these events are fine, but only if you live somewhere with lots of Pokestops. Which I don’t.

And no, before you say “nominate some”, I have. I’ve got like 15 waypoints that I’ve nominated, that have been stuck in voting for months now. So I can’t even do that.
