Ferroseed Incense Day Sucked

Ugh.

These events lately.

They are making me sad.

Like, really sad.

Incense days are tedious. All you can do is stare at your phone, waiting for a spawn, making sure you don’t miss one. Meanwhile, everything around you is just standard normal spawns. You don’t get any bonuses like XP or stardust like Community Days, you don’t even get great shiny chances like the (allegedly) 1/10 shiny chance in Research events*. It’s a rough 1/25 to 1/64 chance at the event shiny, and standard 1/400 chances for anything else. And you can’t even specifically look for the event Pokemon, it’s all random luck on what the incense gives you. You also have far less checks, because there’s a definite limit to how many Pokemon you can get from an Incense, made worse by the fact that not all the spawns are guaranteed to be Ferroseed.

*I call bullshit on this. The last two Research Days I did, I got 0/21 shinies in research tasks and 1/50 shinies in research tasks.

We did actually get event research during the event, but it was all shit. Catch 5 grass or steel types for a handful of rewards. Like Community Day research tasks but worse, because none of them gave you encounters. So if you wanted a good Ferroseed, all you could do was be lucky. And maybe hope that the weather is sunny or snowy. But if the weather IS sunny or snowy, then you can’t get Ferroseeds with good PvP IVs. Either way, it’s luck.

To make matters worse, although Daily Incense was advertised to both be included in the event AND extended to 30 minutes, using it was a waste of time. Sure, it had a CHANCE of spawning Ferroseed, but it also just spawned normal, non-event spawns. In fact, it mostly just spawned normal Pokemon. And since you can’t use Daily Incense and normal Incense at the same time, if you actually use the Daily Incense (which was only boosted for 30 minutes DURING the event), well, well done, kiddo, you just wasted half an hour of the event.

Yeah, I did that. I’m a fucking idiot, clearly. It was a fucking newbie trap. What’s the point of boosting Daily Incense during an event if using it during the event is detrimental?

The ONLY good change was that you could still get some spawns while not moving. Normally, you get 1 spawn every 5 minutes if you are stationary, but during the event, it was about 1 spawn every 2 minutes. It was still much more reliable to walk. Although, that being said, I missed plenty of spawns because the Incense spawns would appear underneath normal spawns, and often there wasn’t enough time to catch the normal spawn in order to check the Incense spawn. Incense spawns should have priority, dammit. But at the same time, that makes this event more stressful, because you HAVE to keep on moving, because you have a limited amount of time. Sure, the event lasted from 11 until 5, but spending 6 hours walking is a lot to ask for, with low chances and no way of boosting them outside of walking more.

At least Niantic were generous enough to give us free Incense. No, wait, you could get ONE Incense. That cost 1 coin. In previous Incense events, we’d get 3 for one coin. Or they’d give one away in a timed research task. Or… we’d get more than one. And unless you staggered the usage of that Incense, you’d only get half the event spawns anyway. And, considering you get about 1 Pokemon a minute and most of the spawns aren’t Ferroseed, good luck.

I spent four fucking hours walking around and didn’t get a single shiny Pokemon. Not a Ferroseed (the titular Pokemon of the event), not anything. In fact, I didn’t get anything good at all during the event, aside from an XXS Shieldon, an XXL Ferroseed (which did win me a showcase, but the showcase just rewarded me with potions and Pokeballs) and a single 3-star Ferroseed, which I deleted anyway because I have a Hundo already. The worst thing is, 5 minutes after the event ended, I got a shiny Machop from my Daily Incense, which was about to run out. I know it sucks to complain about a shiny but I kinda wanted a shiny Ferroseed, since I didn’t have one.

That and the whole fucking point of the event was to get a shiny Ferroseed.

Ugh.
