Cyndaquil Classic Community Day

I’m sorry, but as cute as you are, Cyndaquil, today is just not… very good. I’m not even sure why Cyndaquil was chosen, aside from the fact that Typhlosion was given Thunder Punch at the start of the season. A move that did get buffed. Still, it’s a chance to catch shinies if you missed the original event.

Is Typhlosion good? It’s ok. Doesn’t have much use in PvE because there are just so many good fire types these days. Everything from Reshiram to Mega Charizard to all the other fire type starters. Typhlosion though does have some good bulk and some unique moves though, which does make it a somewhat spice pick for PvP. Shadow Claw is a pretty good, spammy fast move, and it getting Thunder Punch does mean you can spam attacks. But water types are very, very common in all PvP leagues – we have Azumaril and Whishcash in Great League, Swampert in Ultra League and Kyogre in Master League, not to mention plenty of ground types like Clodsire, Groudon and the menace that is Stunfisk. Still, there’s places Typhlosion can fit in, and having Blast Burn is a must.

I’ll be honest though, between the heat and the smaller bonuses (only x2 stardust and xp compared to the normal x3 and double candy), it probably isn’t worth that much time if you already have Typhlosion ready to go. Find somewhere shady and well-populated, throw down a lure, catch what you need, shiny-check the rest. But Cyndaquil’s shiny is… kinda lame, it just goes brown and looks like a little poop. If Cyndaquil had its little flames out all the time, the same way Pokemon like Ponyta do, it’d look do much better.

The thing is, Niantic could EASILY spice up the more boring Classic Community Days. After all, Cyndaquil’s evolution Typhlosion has a Hisuian form. Why not make it so, using some sort of special item, we can get Hisuian Typhlosion from evolving Cyndaquil? Or maybe you could put Hisuian Typhlosion in tier 3 raids during the Community Day, so people can occasionally stop and take a break and talk to other people? We don’t even get the boosts of other, modern Community Days, so there’s no middle evolution in tier 4 raids after the event. It doesn’t make much sense either, because the FIRST Classic Community Day also brought back Sunglasses Squirtle. I’m not saying that we should bring back costumes or whatever but we can do something to spice things up.

As for me, I kinda just wandered around, played for an hour and a half and gave up. I played the original day, I didn’t need any more. I did however get three XXL Cyndaquils (perfect for the three Showcases near me) and I got my first XXS Shiny, which I need a name for. No 3* Pokemon but I didn’t really care. I only really played because I was close to finishing off the Master Ball research, which I did by catching an XXL Cyndaquil and hatching a Turtonator. I also did three routes and got zero cells. People report that it’s a 75% chance to get a cell, but according to my own stats, it’s only about 55% for me.

So, uh, kinda lame overall, I guess. Like the rest of June, this event kinda had no life to it, they just did it, just ’cause.
