A Jack of all Trades on the Plains

“Bloody hell Medic stop with the Warframe content!” some of you may beg. No. I like Warframe. And some of our Warframe content is the most viewed stuff on the site. Plus, I feel I might have some useful tips for those who are newer to the game. “But you’re going to talk about Volt again, aren’t you?” Yes, actually. Because there’s so much stuff going on in the Plains of Eidolon that you need someone who can do a bit of everything.

And Volt might not be the best at everything, but he’s bloody good at a lot of things.

Traveling the Plains

This is the obvious one. Volt’s Speed ability gives you a nice boost, especially when it’s too far to walk normally but not far enough to really be worth deploying a Skywing. But unlike, say, Zephyr, Volt shares his speed boosts with his team mates, so even that random MR0 person who somehow ended up in a level 50 bounty can keep up. Nova is also pretty damn good when it comes to moving people, but her portals can only be used a handful of times before they disappear.

Bounties

Volt is incredibly handy when it comes to bounties. He can provide crowd control during “liberate the camp” missions, he can speed everyone along in “find the hidden caches” missions, he can defend the armoured truck with ease using electric shields in the “open the stupid fucking truck in a shitty variant of a mobile defense mission”. Really, the only mission type Volt might struggle with is the “Protect the Drone” mission, where you have to stop a bunch of Grineer from killing a drone you stole, while following said drone to an extraction point some 500-600m away.

Incursions

Since Volt’s pretty good at the majority of bounty missions, that also makes him pretty handy on the random singular missions that Lotus will send you if you don’t pick a bounty before you enter the plains.

Fishing

While the likes of Ivara and Loki allow you to fish while invisible, meaning you don’t get bothered by pesky wandering Grineer patrols, Volt’s the absolute king of fishing, since his passive means you only ever require one fishing spear. Normally, you require a different spear for different types of fish. Static Discharge gives you extra damage depending on how much you’ve moved around since your last attack, so just wiggling on the spot between hooking fish enables you to do enough damage to catch any fish you want. Generally you want about 10-20 charge stored before attempting to catch a fish.

Eidolon Hunting

I honestly still don’t really know how you kill an Eidolon. Well, I do, but it’s a complicated process that takes forever if you don’t have a good setup. You need a healer to protect both you and your Eidolon lures, you need someone who does a ton of DPS (damage per second) to take out the Eidolon’s heavily armoured limbs and you ideally need someone who offers status immunity, to stop a downed Eidolon’s energy blasts from stripping you of all your energy. The last slot of a team is generally open, but do you know who is super useful? Volt.

Electric Shield is the key here, as not only does it block some of the Eidolon’s attacks, but shooting through an electric shield also gives extra damage. This is great for your team’s DPS guy, but it’s even better for destroying an Eidolon’s shields. You see, you need to use your Operator to remove an Eidolon’s shields before you can damage its limbs, and Electric Shield is one of the few abilities that can buff an Operator’s damage output. Most other buffs in the game are Warframes only, so that extra damage for an Operator, even one who hasn’t put much work into their Focus yet, or hasn’t managed to build an amp yet, is genuinely very helpful.

I mean, when it comes to Eidolon fights, a Trinity is always required, someone like Chroma is great for DPS and someone like Harrow or Oberon are perfect for status immunity, but Volt has a use there too!

Oh and Volt’s pretty good when it comes to grabbing Eidolon Lures as well. So he’s not a one trick pony.

So yeah, get a Volt, preferably a Volt Prime. Mod him for duration and power strength. Throw in a Redirection as well and you’re golden.
