Not Cleffa Hatch Day

Baby Pokemon are stupid. For some reason, in Pokemon GO, these bastards are restricted from being caught and you HAVE to hatch them from eggs. Which means that, if you want a shiny one, you gotta do a lot of walking and buy a lot of incubators. Now, occasionally, we get ‘Hatch Days’, which are basically Community Days for Baby Pokemon. The first one was for Riolu, whose only real use is being taught a second move while its cheap before you evolve it into a Lucario. It was an alright event, but it was kinda tedious and there was nothing fun to catch while we walked.

"Hatch me, bitch!" - shiny Cleffa
“Hatch me, bitch!” – shiny Cleffa

In this case though, the Pokemon in question is Cleffa, which evolves into Clefairy, which evolves into Clefable, which, as far as I care, the only interesting thing about Clefable to me is the fact that it learns Meteor Mash for some stupid reason. It’s an annoying Pokemon and frankly I hate both the stupid pink normal-turned-fairy-type lines from Generation 1. Not only did Jigglypuff and Clefairy BOTH get stupid baby forms that they didn’t need but they also got buffed into the best type in the game that exists literally to screw over dragons and fighters, and both their evolutions are annoyingly bulky bastards.

Problem is, these events ALWAYS delay you. Because you have to ACTIVELY STOP PLAYING THE GAME to be able to do a Hatch Day. You need to empty your egg space and then proceed to not spin gyms or Pokestops or open gifts or do Team Rocket leader fights until the event starts, so you can fill up on eggs that contain Cleffa. But at the same time, good fucking luck actually emptying your egg space unless you have multiple incubators already. Because egg drops are completely random, and it’s possible to end up filled with 5km and 10km eggs you don’t want before the event. I’m lucky I’ve been filled up with 2km eggs (and I just finished the level 45 research which gave me 3 super incubators), but I’m still going to have to hatch those eggs before I can start even picking up Cleffa hatch day eggs.

Honestly, way more than community days, hatch days are pay-to-play-well events. On a Community Day, anyone can go out, catch a bunch of Pokemon and get a shiny. Hatch days require walking around waiting for an animation to tell you an egg has hatched, and the only way to improve your odds is to have more incubators. And the easiest way to get those is to buy them. Because, right now, showcases don’t seem to be dropping them (I’ve been winning a lot of showcases lately and gotten none) and there’s a free research but it requires you to catch nearly 300 Kanto Pokemon for one incubator. Sure, there’s a timed research for one incubator as well, which is nice, but incubators are premium items that are more lootbox-y than raid passes are and take way more time to use.

There’s not even much else interesting. On a Community Day, you get themed research tasks that also help you keep topped up on items, and there’s generally a cool bonus like x3 stardust or 1/4 hatch distance. The Hatch Day only has a 1/2 hatch distance. And the Hatch Day just kinda happens alongside this stupid boring “welcome back to Kanto yet again” event. Which means there’s nothing to catch apart from the same old Kanto Pokemon that kinda spawn all the time anyway.

Except Rattata.

Anyway, fuck Cleffa. Stupid baby Pokemon. It’s not even a good shiny. Just has stupid ears. I don’t even want one, I had one years ago and traded it for a shiny fucking Groudon because Groudon’s actually cool.
