Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 9

Last time I was here, I was avoiding Hop before reaching the next gym. I went off to catch some more Pokemon. After a semi-useful catching spree, I decide to go back and fight Hop. And, just like last time, I beat him with ease. To his credit though, he made one of my Pokemon faint. This is also the first time I saw a new Pokemon that had an entire fucking Pikachu trapped in its mouth. Gross. Anyway, with Hop out of the way, I can properly visit the gym here. It’s a ghost type gym, which would normally… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 8

I smell a plot. It’s about time, but I think there might actually be some plot heading my way. I’ve just appeared in Hammerlocke, after having run through the wild. Luckily, I got through, but my party were not at all in one piece. Half my team got wiped by a single Gyarados that I attempted to fight, and I had to kill a lot of mid-level Pokemon to get to the city. Once I was there though, I noted how cool the place looked. After all, it’s a giant dark castle, and the entrance was a dragon’s head. Apparently… [Continue Reading]

Today, I’m going to be getting the fire badge! And where is the fire gym located? Back in Motostoke! Can we just get a sky taxi to go back there? We can! But the game wants me to go through this mine. Mostly for plot reasons. The first thing I see in said mine is Bede, the trainer that was endorsed by Rose. And of course, he wants to fight. Luckily, I manage to nuke all his Pokemon. Including his Galarian ponyta. Out of instinct, I actually brought out a water type, thinking that this Ponyta was a fire type.… [Continue Reading]

A Brief Interlude Where Medic Talks About Pokemon Shield So Far

I must admit, I’ve been getting carried away with all this Pokemon stuff. It’s all such a genuinely new experience for me. But today, I am taking a break from playing, so I can discuss my thoughts so far. Granted, I’ve only beaten a quarter of the gyms, and am still running around like an idiot, but I’ve been making process and slowly getting the hang of how Pokemon works. It’s alright. Funnily enough, turns out I don’t have much to say about the game. I like wandering around and catching Pokemon, and I like the Pokemon battles. The Pokemon… [Continue Reading]

Last time round, I managed to get the Grass badge. And this time, I’m very quickly gunning towards the Water badge. Before I do that though, I decide to level myself up a little bit. Milo’s Pokemon were a higher level than mine, and I’m pretty sure whatsherface’s Pokemon will be level 20 or higher. I also decide to go shopping before making my way to water town. It’s always good to have plenty of potions and pokeballs. However, as I head down to the next down on my freshly ‘borrowed’ bike, I run into Hop again. And he wants… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 5

We start off Part 5 of this dumb adventure by grinding some more. I am due to face Milo, the Grass-type leader, but I have only one fire type. Yes, it’s a Growlithe, one of my favourites, but he’s lacking in levels. So after a quick grind to get Gruffle the Growlithe to level 15, I head over to the massive Turffield Stadium to challenge the gym leader. Once there, I put on my special challenger cloths and go through the doors to the gym. Before I do anything though, I have a “Grass challenge” I need to do. Basically,… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 4

Who likes cut scenes? I do! Actually, I kinda don’t. Which is a shame because I’m going to be sitting through one. I’m now in Motostoke, and we have to go to the arena for some sort of opening ceremony. Before we can do that though, there’s a list of chores that need doing. We need to book into the hotel and get our special costumes fitted. It seems that every challenger has to wear a costume with a number on it, so of course I chose my lucky number to be 666. The opening ceremony starts the next day,… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 3 – Off-screen Catching

I’m supposed to be going to Motostoke Stadium to do some more competitive stuff, but frankly, I wasn’t particularly happy with my team. Not having any idea of what is coming up, I decided to do some off-screen catching of Pokemon. I mean, all I had were a handful of Pokemon from the starter area, all of whom needed leveling up. So I felt like I needed to catch and level up some stronger Pokemon. The difference between level 10 and level 15 feels huge. Turns out, those 5 levels make a huge difference. To the point that my poor… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 2

Hiya and welcome back to the idiot who’s never played a Pokemon game before. Last time round, we saw route 1, went to a pokecenter and picked up a pokedex. This time round, we need to go and visit the Professor, who is at the end of Route 2. While I thought this would be a quick visit, it turned out to be way longer than I expected. A trip to the Professor On our way to the Professor’s house though, we run into our first few actual Pokemon trainers that aren’t Hop. these guys all have 1-2 Pokemon each… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 1

Today, I am playing Pokemon Shield. This is my first time, and I’ve got a massive adventure ahead of me. One that I actually don’t know much about. In today’s article, I’ll be going to meet the Champion and hopefully choose my first Pokemon. Here we go! I’ve chosen my character. She’s a small girl with blonde hair. She just needs a name, because I’m not going to use her actual name. So for now her name is Retvik. I know that’s a name I normally use and it doesn’t fit at all, but it doesn’t matter. And it’s better… [Continue Reading]
