The Dark Flames Event Sucked

At the end of June, there was a small event called the Dark Flames event. It featured Pokemon that were fire type or dark type (or both) and introduced a new Pokemon, Turtonator. But this event also had a timed research task, and it was genuinely pretty crappy. But why was this event so bad? Let’s start with the spawns. Of course, we had dark types and fire types. But not that many. Houndour, Vulpix and Poochyena were among the most common, and we also saw Numel and Stunky. Stunky had been around in the previous Team Rocket takeover event,… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 13

I need fairy types. Like, right now. I don’t have a single one with me and I need some. Coming up next was the Dark Gym in Spikemuth, and I have pretty much nothing available to take the gym down. So I need to go and do some farming. And the first thing I do is go to Ballonlea, because that’s where the fairy gym is. I’m almost certainly going to find some fairy types there! Well, not really. I find some. But I also find a ton of psychic types, most notably Galarian Ponyta. Such a pretty pony. It… [Continue Reading]

Medic Plays A Real Pokemon Game for the First Time – Part 9

Last time I was here, I was avoiding Hop before reaching the next gym. I went off to catch some more Pokemon. After a semi-useful catching spree, I decide to go back and fight Hop. And, just like last time, I beat him with ease. To his credit though, he made one of my Pokemon faint. This is also the first time I saw a new Pokemon that had an entire fucking Pikachu trapped in its mouth. Gross. Anyway, with Hop out of the way, I can properly visit the gym here. It’s a ghost type gym, which would normally… [Continue Reading]

5 More Short, Free, Low-Poly Horror Games That Are Worth Playing

My last two articles on short, free, low-poly horror games published in August and September. And now the finale is publishing in November, meaning I completely missed the correct month for spooky articles. Oh well! Even if it’s a bit out-of-season, I think you’ll still enjoy these bite-sized tidbits of terror: 1. The Whitetail Incident The Whitetail Incident was definitely my favorite game to play on this list. Not the least of which because you get a shotgun! The player character is a ranger searching for a coworker who went missing while responding to a camper’s SOS. Accompanying you is… [Continue Reading]

5 Short, Free, Low-Poly Horror Games That Are Worth Playing

Do you like short, free, low-poly horror games? I don’t blame you for not immediately responding with an enthusistic “Yes!” because it’s a pretty niche category, one I’d never even played until a few days ago. But in hindsight I should have realized it would absolutely be a winning genre for me. I’ve already devoted a whole week to articles on dark spooky forests, and this is something of a sequel because most of these games would have qualified. Every game in this list is beatable in a single sitting and (in my opinion) a short but worthwhile experience. All… [Continue Reading]

Welcome to ‘Dark Spooky Forest’ Week!

Hey all! As described a while back, Medic has left me in charge of the Daily SPUF for a while, which is why you’ve been seeing more articles from me than usual. Last time this happened, I did a “retrospective week” where I discussed old games that weren’t really in the public conscience anymore. This week, I want to do something similar, but with a focus on my personal favorite video game setting: dark and spooky forests. I am a total sucker for dark and spooky forests. Perhaps it was due to growing up in the city, when my dad… [Continue Reading]
