Very Festive SPUF Event

After EotL, everyone was very depressed. So I, sensing an opportunity to make people feel better, conjured up a little event. The premise was simple. A normal Highlander match with an extra Demoknight (can’t leave out those Demoknights!), while wearing your festive items. And hopefully, the Winter Noisemaker. The map rotation was simple: Winter TF2 maps only. You can’t have a Smissmas party on Dustbowl now, can you? Although the game started late, as we tried to sorted out players and stuff, but we managed to get some wonderful people from the Fast Company regulars to fill any slots and… [Continue Reading]

Beginner’s Guide to Loadouts in Left 4 Dead 2

It has come to my attention that very few people on TF2 SPUF play Left 4 Dead 2. This is a real shame because the game is very, very fun and in recent months I’ve found it consuming far more of my allotted game time than TF2 does. So I basically thought I’d just write a quick guide detailing two of my favorite loadouts in the hopes that this info might help you if you ever decide to pick the game up. Left 4 Dead 2 has a wonderful array of weaponry, and the best part is that all of it… [Continue Reading]

A Pyro Story

He admired their tenacity. They were all down there, planning an attack on the newly recaptured Foundry. Again. They were gathered around the table, pointing at a map, drawing lines and suggesting ideas. All nine of them. Their Spy had gathered the intelligence. Stolen it from under the noses of his own team. He’d seemed to have recovered well from being shot in the face by his team mates. Pyro knew though that deep down, the silly little Frenchman was bitter. And why shouldn’t he be bitter? After all, he was ever so cruelly tricked. The information had been pieced… [Continue Reading]

Holiday Shopping: Steam Gifts For All

It’s that time of the year again, and you know what that means! That’s right; unfavorable weather, repetitive songs on the radio, and a solid financial hit just waiting to happen. Let me tell you: I am broke. I’m so broke, I could no longer afford to pay for the moth that used to hang out in my wallet and comically float out every time I opened it to show people just how broke I was. Hell, I had to cut my weekly trip to buy groceries so I could pay for Christmas presents. But through it all, being completely… [Continue Reading]

Some interesting ideas – TF Comics

So, it’s been a month since the startling events in Team Fortress Comics #4 and already I’m wondering what’s going to happen next. Let’s be frank, the last bit of that comic was startling. Sniper really isn’t having a good time and Soldier’s girlfriend is having a hard time being the tenth class. Those other mercenaries are worrying and the Administrator looks like shit. Hey, don’t look at me like that, it’s hard writing an opening paragraph that describes what I’m talking about without spoiling the comics for those who are waiting for them all to come out! Anyway, yes,… [Continue Reading]

Coordinating Anger

Good day, everyone! Just thought I’d write a little something to try and calm down and reach out to you all. Alright, the End of the Line update was meh. Apart from the short, it was the same old stuff that you’d expect from any minor patch which introduces a new crate. We got a bunch of cosmetics, a multi-class melee reskin that’s similar in size and shape to the Conscientious Objector minus the need for a decal tool and a pay-to-stat duck thing. Also a couple of maps got vandalized by Pyro. It was a lackluster update that wasn’t… [Continue Reading]

End of the Hype: An Update Worth Railing Against

You guys wanna know something? Prior to End of the Line’s recent release, I hadn’t cared much one way or the other about the update for months. The preview version of the map I’d played with some friends didn’t seem particularly interesting, and the Love and War update had ended the weapon drought that made us so greatly anticipate EotL’s arrival in the first place. Yet, despite all of the feelings and expectations I DIDN’T have, the End of the Line update still managed to make me feel complete and utter contempt toward whatever part of Valve is in charge of TF2. For… [Continue Reading]

Flaring Up

Poor Pyro can’t seem to catch a break. Ever since his Team Fortress Classic days people have derided him as underpowered, unbalanced, gimmicky, over-reliant on newb opponents…the insults are as varied as the tools Valve has bestowed upon the poor unintelligible merc. Plenty of people have written opinions on why Pyro is underpowered (here’s mine) and even more people have written theories on how to fix that problem. Before I go into that, I want to try and sum up some fundamentals that are often brought up. Firstly, Pyro’s short-range emphasis is seen as one of his major problems since… [Continue Reading]

Why I’m not sure 4v4 works

4v4 is the third or fourth version of TF2 competitive, after 6v6, Highlander and, whether you consider it or not, Ultiduo. Thing is, it doesn’t quite work. Or at least, I feel that it doesn’t quite work. Alright, I am by no means an expert, I’ve only played a couple of matches, but since I am a somewhat intelligent person, I quickly saw the flaws in what I played. Before we start, there are a LOT of positive things behind 4v4. It is much easier to organize eight people over sixteen or eighteen people, and getting them into a server… [Continue Reading]

Dearly Departed SPUFers

As I’m trapped on a 14-hour bus ride because I missed my 14-hour train ride and now have to grapple with the financial and physical discomfort this situation puts me in, I’ve been in something of a pensive mood. As my entertainment options have dwindled to draining the power on my no-internet laptop or observing the wonderfully repetitive West Virginian nature whizzing past the windshield, I thought I might take this opportunity to talk about some SPUFers who have disappeared as the years roll by. Obviously every forumite must disappear someday, I guess the most one can hope for is that they get to… [Continue Reading]
