Medic goes to Cyprus Comic Con: Day 2

Well, I got back an hour ago from our trip to and from Nicosia/Lefkosia and it was clear enough to see those dumb horrible Turkish flags painted on the Pentadaktyla mountains. I wasn’t going to write a blog post about today but I decided why not? I’m home early enough and I have to write my 500 words a day anyway, as well as jot down ideas for other articles.

Today we decided to be a bit more casual in our costumes. I swapped my long sleeved top for a sleeveless one, ditched the stupid grenades and swapped my flamethrower for my shotgun. And no boots because blisters. Terroxy went as casual Medic, covered in blood. Nommy dropped her hammer and wore a skirt rather than shorts. We also left later, getting there at 11:30am.

First thing we noticed, still very, very busy. Everything was mostly the same as it was yesterday, execpt for the lack of cosplayers – we met a few of the people we saw yesterday and almost all of them were wearing normal clothes. Captain Boomerang and the chill Deadpool were there again, but the surplus of DC characters, particularly Harley Quinns, were missing. The front hall of the con, yesterday filled with cosplayers from all over the place was reduced to a Counter-Terrorist, two PAYDAY guys, McHighNoon and Chill Deadpool. Apparently someone stole his rubber chicken. Oh and some ‘Hellsing’ guy. There were a bunch of Suicide Squad people but they were promoting a local computer store who were doing a €2 raffle to win a custom made Overwatch computer.

Speaking of Overwatch, they had an area where you could play causal games, but all it did was cement my dislike of the game. I quit playing as soon as I felt the headache coming. Oddly, Terroxy didn’t enjoy it. He felt the game was a bit too much “who pressed Q/E at the best moment” rather than the Quake-like better-positioning-and-aim-wins experience he wanted. I was fucking awful because not playing for 6 months tends to do that, I didn’t have the right sensitivity and holy fuck it was laggy.

There were no bargains or anything either. Everything was still expensive as always, there was just way less stock. Pretty much everyone there had a website and a shop nearby (within Nicosia at least) so there was no rush to sell anything. I ended up buying nothing for myself because there was nothing we wanted.

These guys were great.
These guys were great.

At 1:30pm we decided we had seen it all, and headed off to the Nicosia mall. Another pointless exercise, but since we were in the capital city, we didn’t want to waste the day. I had Pizzahut for lunch, I got a whole pizza and a drink for €5 rather than a slice and a drink for the same yesterday and siblings had chicken gyro. Was heaving though at the mall. Ironically, the Nicosia mall, not including the Ikea which is completely separate from it, is SMALLER and has less shops than the Kings Avenue Mall here in Paphos. Either way, we went to Bionic where I was disappointed by No Man’s Sky and how… Basic it looked, Terroxy got a new game and we split the cost of a LEGO General Grievous model.

After that, we wandered around a bit more then decided to come home. Somehow, we managed to make it back in an hour and twenty minutes.

Of course, any nice weekend has to be spoiled in some way. We had yet another water leak we had to go and fix.

Typical.
