Ordis Deserves Better

I’ve been meaning to write another article about our good friend Ordis for a while, and the Sacrifice is the perfect opportunity to do so. All these years, Ordis has been by our side, helping us out, looking after our quarters, sorting out our Warframes and building our weapons for us. Ever since we woke up, weak and confused, Ordis has been there. Heck, he was the third person to speak to us, after Captain Vor threatening us and Lotus waking us up.

Ordis has always been there. Ordis cares about us.

This is Ordis.
This is Ordis.

But frankly, we treat him badly.

Okay, maybe not badly. But Ordis kinda deserves better. He does all these things for us, he’s willing to put his life on the line for both us and others. In Octavia’s Anthem, Ordis is desperate to protect us, but also protect Cephalon Suda. We kinda just sigh and roll our eyes at him.

This all reached a plateau during the Sacrifice. This was when I realised that our Operator kinda doesn’t really care about.

Right from the start, Ordis is just trying to help. We experience a painful vision and Ordis is there trying to make us feel better. Alright, maybe playing some kind words spoken by the Lotus isn’t the best way to do so, but Ordis is literally a feral executioner stripped of himself, mindfucked and forced into being a nigh immortal AI for all eternity, so give him a break.

But throughout the quest, we completely and utterly disregard Ordis and what he has to say.

Right at the start, after learning about the poor Umbra that got exploded and scattered across that pretty landscape, Ordis worries about you and warns you about what you’re doing.

He also warns you about dangerous artifacts. And sticking dangerous artifacts into Ordis’s AI system. And building a strange Warframe. Basically, Ordis spends his entire time warning you of the dangerous of what you’re doing, then trying to protect you from what you’re doing, while also trying to comfort you.

Heck, in the Sacrifice, Ordis gets a sudden upgrade (or downgrade depending on how you look at it) thanks to an Orokin artifact you stick in him. Ordis nearly shuts down, nearly taking you and your Orbiter with him, the whole ship lurching to one side and all the lights gong out. Okay, yeah, sure, Ordis boots up again, but you don’t seem to care that much. You care even less when Ordis starts speaking in a completely different voice, calling you Star-Child and building an entire Warframe out of a handful of basic materials in under 10 seconds.

This new Ordis basically does whatever you want as well, as a soulless, lifeless Cephalon, just doing its job to please you.

Thankfully (well, I’m thankful at least), we get Ordis back. And he CONTINUES to try and protect us. Especially when we do insanely stupid things like NOT USING WARFRAMES WHEN WE ARE TINY BAGS OF VOID FLESH. I mean seriously I get it we’re immortal space kids but we’re slow, tedious and awkward immortal space kids, incapable of taking hits the way a Warframe can. Sure, we come out without any major harm, but Ordis is trying to protect us and we blatantly ignore him.

I say we. I mean the Operator. The Operator takes Ordis for granted. He’s doing all this shit for you (partially because he’s forced to, but mostly because he’s basically Space Dad) and the Operator just… doesn’t care. Okay they care enough to go and save Ordis and Suda in Octavia’s Anthem but the rest of the time, the Operator is indifferent to their servant’s needs.

Let’s not forget that Ordis has been doing all of Lotus’s duties since she buggered off with Ballas.

Ordis deserves better than these annoying Operators. Sure, he can be annoying. Sure he’s got a limited number of voice lines. But Ordis will do anything for us.

I don’t know about you, but I would do anything for Ordis as well. Except willingly do missions without my Warframe. Because Ordis is right, that IS a dumb idea.

    Like seriously the operator is such a ****** in the quest I refused to believe DE is a Canadian team… If they are they should apologize to ordis a thousand times for god’s sake. I remembered the vitruvian Ordis has a line saying “Star-Child, are you seeking revenge for its damage to me?” and this **** emo teen replied with a potent “No! Blah blah blah I need to find Lotus blah blah” and I was literally bleeding in my heart. Not to mention how the first sentence Ordis said when he came back is caring about us, and we NEVER asked “are you alright ordis” for like ONCE. I got angry towards my operator so much I can never feel the same ;_;
    Ordis needs some love. Ordis have rights too ;_;

      I don’t think DE ever considered it because most people seem to dislike Ordis and most people have him muted. There’s also the whole thing that Space Kid is learning to be an adult and simply doesn’t even realise what he’s doing.
