There Are Always Idiots In Every Group. Always.

I was browsing imgur the other day when one of the front page posts was talking about being wrong about climate change. The post, a screenshot off of Tumblr, stated that there would be no real consequences if we turned out to be wrong about climate change and would still be making the world a better place. There were a few arguments in the comments, mostly about “well it’s all China/India’s fault!” and “the corporations do most of it!”. There were even some retards who commented that “more CO2 is good because plants need it!”, not knowing that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and part of the reason why Venus is a massive rocky ball of heat and death today (Wikipedia).

But one argument that stuck out was (and I am paraphrasing here) “WHAT ABOUT ALL THE STUPID PEOPLE WHO MADE ABSURD PREDICTIONS THAT WE WOULD ALL BE UNDERWATER IN 10 YEARS, HMMM?”

According to this argument, just because some idiots made absurd predictions that didn’t come true, we should just ignore climate change. It’s not real, after all, if it was, we’d all be dead and everything right now.

I see this all the time. In pretty much everything. There is always some idiotic subgroup of literally any group that says stupid things. And this causes some idiotic subgroup of another group to completely dismiss the first group.

Vaccines are another great example of this problem with small groups of idiots. Because of one single idiot who did a lot of very idiotic things and had a lot of conflicts of interest that are all happily ignored, we now have swathes of idiots who claim that vaccines are bad. They’re not bad. If vaccines genuinely caused autism, literally everyone would be autistic. One idiot ‘doctor’ in a massive group of doctors ruined it for everyone else. And I say ‘doctor’ because the idiot got stripped of his medical license. Partially due to the mistreatment of children.

For a… spicier example, whenever you stumble across equal rights topics, there are always a bunch of people who scream and shout about “all those feminists who want men belittled or dead or made into slaves” and so on. According to some idiots, just because there exists a group of idiots who want stupid things for feminism, that means that all feminism is wrong. Of course, you could argue that we should strive for equal rights regardless of gender and there is a lot of nuance to be had. But while there are swathes of the planet where women are considered property, are mistreated and denied education, feminism in its many, many forms is still needed in many parts of the world.

And then you have the opposite end of the spectrum. People campaigning for men’s rights. Divorced fathers want equal access and rights to parent their children. It’s an honourable cause. But just like how there’s a small slither of ‘feminists’ who demand inequality for men, there’s men who take it too far and demand inequality for women.

This happens in literally everything. In politics, the left and the right could (theoretically – depending on country) work together to come to an agreement. However the extreme and stupid sides of politics pull the rest of politics apart.

The problem is that, quite often, we let the idiots of every group define and control the rest of the group. And the idiots threaten to take over the group. Sometimes a group can be completely swallowed up by idiots.

How do we fix this? I have no idea. But you didn’t come here for solutions or even rambles like this. You came here for video game articles.
