A Feeling of “What now?” in Pokemon GO

So, GO Fest has been and gone. It was two days of fun for me, I had a great time. However, as the event ended on Sunday, I had a weird feeling in the back of my head. That feeling faded over night, but came back in full force on Monday morning.

That feeling was simple. “What now?”

GO Fest was a little too much fun

GO Fest was so fun that I got sun-burnt. On day 1 alone, I walked like 10km back and forth (I hatched 5 2km eggs on day 1), and we probably managed a good few extra kilometers on day 2. The whole event was a non-stop catching and shiny checking event. And when we weren’t checking for shinies, we were doing lots of raids. To be honest, we weren’t eve playing with maximum efficiency, but we still did a ton of walking around.

After so much rushing around, I came away with over 30 shinies, including a shiny Groudon and a shiny 96% Larvitar. Those were two Pokemon I had been trying to get for years, and, 3 years later, I finally got both. Not everyone’s luck was good though. My brother struggled to find any good shinies on day 2, and day 1 mostly got him duplicate shinies. Thankfully, right at the end of the event, brother got a shiny Throh, one he was looking for.

When it was all over, both I and my brother and the guy we were hanging out with all kinda sighed as the last few spawns disappeared. It had been a great event. And all the cool spawns were now Weedles and Cacneas.

Really though it was kinda chaotic

Between checking spawns for shinies, raiding and constant incense use, there was hardly a moment to take a break. Especially since I wasn’t playing alone. On both days, my brother and I ran into other Pokemon GO players, and spent pretty much the entire event with a fellow player who had way better luck than even I did. On top of all that, it was important to keep ourselves hydrated and find plenty of shade.

In fact, it was so chaotic that I didn’t even realize that I found a 100% Pokemon. In the evening, when deleting stuff to make some space, I typed 4* into the search box to find my HUNDOur, and saw a 100% shiny Skarmory right next to it!

A well-needed break

However, despite saying all of this, I think we all do need to have a break. The last year or so has been nothing but constant events. Really, we’ve been having too many events, to the point that we don’t seem to get the seasonal spawns. But at the same time, it’s easy to already miss the varied spawns from GO Fest. There were some genuinely great spawns at GO Fest and now we’re back to Cacneas and Petilils. While, yes, we got some new regularly-spawning shinies, very little can beat hours of Deino, Gible, Beldum and Larvitar.

So a break is nice, but it is at the cost of crappy spawns. At the same time though, it’s possible to get burnt out, so maybe a small break is a good idea.

That being said, as I typed this, I just got a shiny Alolan Geodude. So clearly, I’m not taking a break. I’m still as addicted as ever. But the point stands, I think a brief period of no events is good for us.
