At What Point Do I Become a Veteran in Video Games?

As a human being, I don’t have much self-confidence. It’s something I have struggled with for a while, both online and offline. Today, I am mostly looking at the online side of things. Because I have almost no self-confidence when it comes to games.

When I used to play PvP stuff, I was rarely ever pleased with myself. Mostly because I always played as a support. Mainly just Medic in TF2, but also in other games I dabbled with. The reason I played support was always two-fold. Firstly, no one else wants to play support most of the time, but I also had a side issue of having shitty aim. While I guess my aim has improved a little over the years, I am still utterly useless at shooting things in the head.

However, I have quite a past when it comes to playing TF2. I have played against some of the much more skilled players and had my ass handed to me repeatedly. On top of that, I played for a long, long time.

But does that make me a veteran player? I don’t think so. Mostly because I never really got too deep into playing Team Fortress 2. And I wasn’t very good. Just some below-average player who always played Medic.

This applies to pretty much every other game I play. Despite having played Minecraft since Alpha, I don’t consider myself a Minecraft Veteran either. Heck, Minecraft has been going through massive updates lately. Skyrim is also in a similar predicament. Despite my many hours played, all my modding and dicking around, I certainly am not a Elder Scrolls veteran.

However, there is one game that I can’t deny I am a veteran in. After all, I have been playing Warframe for so long that I have mastered like 90% of the entire game. I’m a True Master and I have been playing for years now. Surely I must be a veteran in Warframe?

I’ll accept that. I kinda have to, considering how much I’ve played Warframe.

But for some reason, I don’t *feel* like any sort of veteran. Sure, I have played a lot of Warframe, but I don’t feel like a veteran player, effortlessly cleaving my way through everything.

I also don’t look like a veteran either. After all, who else runs around in a banana-yellow normal Volt? Well there probably are eccentric Volt mains out there, but you’d think I would have moved on to a much nicer colour scheme by now. But no, I am still yellow.

I suppose I could consider myself a veteran in Pokemon Go, but that’s hardly an amazing feat. Especially since level 50 is so insanely far away. That is a whole new mountain to climb, and I have barely started.

Either way though, it doesn’t really matter. I’m just a chump who plays video games. Nothing special about that. I just need to go and have fun.

That being said, I’ve been hardly playing anything lately. Just a small dollop of Warframe and a splash of Destiny 2. Can’t call myself a gamer if I’m not playing games.
