Voidshell Skins are Neat

One of the newer and fancier parts of the Angels of the Zariman update is the introduction of Voidshell skins. These skins are brand new and work rather differently compared to other skins. It’s all part of a new customization system, but is currently being tested, so there are only a few skins available. We got three Warframes and a set of armour for Drifter and Operator. But how do they work?

Choosing Textures

With the new Voidshell skins, you actually get to pick a texture as well as a colour. There are a good number of textures available, ranging from super shiny Orokin-like metallic textures, all the way down to cold, matte textures with no sheen at all. We also have some more natural textures as well, such as a pinecone-like effect, and a texture based on reptilian scales.

The textures work exactly as normal colour-picking, with four channels to pick from. However, the skins are based on the original Warframe, and aren’t compatible with deluxe or Tennogen skins. In fact, they actually work more like Immortal skins, using the base body but with a different pattern to colour in.

Volt was included in the first three skins.

Normally, I’m willing to wait when it comes to new skins. After all, there’s a new skin for Valkyr, but I don’t play her so I won’t buy it straight away. However, because I went into the Angels of the Zariman update blind, I had no idea that Volt was one of the first three chosen to get Voidshell skins!

Turns out, so far, I’ve spent almost the same amount of time messing with Volt’s cosmetics than I have actually playing the new Zariman update. Fiddling around with colours and textures has been pretty fun, and there’s a lot of neat stuff you can do. These new Voidshell skins allow you to not just make your own fashion, but also create some memes as well. I’ve already seen several solid gold Rhinos, a Vantablack Volt and a Saryn that was mimicking the missing purple and black texture, as if it was actually missing said textures.

Too much choice for me, almost.

They are pretty awesome though, and I like the way that fashion frame is going. The Voidshell system is pretty good and I look forward to being able to customize other Warframes in the same way as these original three. Volt, Rhino and Saryn are an interesting first choice, especially since Volt recently got a new deluxe skin.

What’s also nice is that the game actually gives you a Voidshell skin for free. While they’re not for Warframes, it’s nice to see both Operator and Drifter getting a Voidshell suit each. They look really good and, again, offer a huge amount of customization.

Can’t wait for more of these voidshell skins! However, the question is, which Warframes will be picked next, after Volt, Saryn and Rhino? I’m not sure myself, but I can definitely see Nova and Wisp getting Voidshell skins in the near future.
