Team Yell are my favourite team for some reason

The more I think about Pokemon, the more predictable things get. Really, Pokemon is so formulaic that sometimes I wonder how it’s remained so popular over the years. On the plus side, it being so popular means that I can write a ton of articles about it. Heck, it’s pretty much impossible to write about everything in Pokemon games. Especially when it comes to opinions. Opinions are infinite. Everyone has them. Even though some opinions are kinda weird.

A bit like this article, where I claim that Team Yell are my favourite team.

Their objective is simple

Many evil teams want to do something dangerous, like stealing Pokemon, experimenting on them or considering them as nothing more than just tools. Some villainous teams go much further, wanting to flood cities and make bigger oceans, trying to take over the world and even going as far as wanting to destroy the universe.

Team Yell on the other hand just want one single thing: to help Marnie become the Champion of Galar. While they first start out as overly excited friends, Team Yell becomes a pain in the butt for anyone doing the gym challenge. Most of the disruption comes in the form of heckling and blocking the path so other challengers can’t get through. Although, if I’m being frank, if you can’t beat the Linoones and Thievuls that Team Yell use, then you probably shouldn’t be doing the gym challenge anyway.

They look great

Team Yell genuinely look awesome in their pink and black costumes, spiky clothes and pink hairdos. Their design is based on old football hooligans, which used to be a massive problem in the UK. There’s also plenty of goth looks as well, with all the spikes and black, torn clothes. The pink and black go really well together, and they definitely stand out from the crowd.

They also have some good dialogue. I can easily imagine all of them speaking with a London accent, potentially even a Cockney accent. It’s a shame that Pokemon is rated E for Everyone, because I’d love to hear a Team Yell grunt shout “OI, PRICK!” at the player. Maybe throw some rhyming slang in there as well.

I don’t know why all the male grunts are fat though. It’s a bit mean.

They’re pretty much harmless

“But Medic! Team Yell doesn’t do anything!” I can hear all three of you saying. And you say that as if it’s a bad thing. The main reason I like Team Yell is because they’re pretty much harmless! All they care about is supporting their home-grown talent, and putting Spikemuth in the spotlight. That’s it. The worst thing they did was trying to steal a bike from someone. Really Team Yell grunts only do bad things when their boss isn’t looking. Whenever Piers or Marnie are around, Team Yell grunts go back to being half-decent people.

A defeated Team Yell grunt.

However, Team Yell are also very willing to help. When Leon goes missing, Team Yell help the player and Hop in trying to find a way to get to get access to the monorail. And when you become the champion and Marnie takes over as the Dark Gym Leader, Team Yell calm down a lot. Heck, their old leader, Piers, regularly comes and helps the player out, just like Leon does.

While Team Yell may be utterly harmless to most people, they do have great looks and alright personalities, and they actually do care about Pokemon. And, more importantly, they’re not trying to destroy the world or anything like that. They don’t mistreat their Pokemon, they can swap to the good side and are definitely not looking to destroy and remake the universe and become a god. All Team Yell want to do is support Marnie and help her become champion. And when she doesn’t? They remain loyal to her and Piers anyway, and cheer the player on as they battle Champion Leon.

That’s why I like Team Yell.
