A Hall of Fame

I kinda realized that I didn’t really showcase the team I used in Pokemon Shield. Some Pokemon were permanent members, while others came and went, according to any upcoming gyms. For each new gym challenge, I swapped out Pokemon and leveled up Pokemon that were guaranteed to be super effective against the gym leaders. However, my final team was a bit different. After all, the gym leaders all focused on one type. And I could just pick Pokemon that were super-effective against their types. Leon and my rivals on the other hand all had much more diverse teams. So I… [Continue Reading]

In Which Medic Invites His Readers to Choose His Next Play-through

I’ll be blunt here. I don’t consider myself a real gamer. After all, there are so many classic games that I’ve missed, either via not owning them or never getting round to play them. Quite often, I don’t have the right gaming console, and I don’t want to mess around with emulation. Especially if I don’t already own the game. The way I play, I tend to hyper-fixate on one particular game at a time, with a little Pokemon GO on the side. What I really need is for someone to kick my ass and tell me what to play.… [Continue Reading]

My Very Early Thoughts on Soulframe

So it looks like Digital Extremes are making another game. At Tennocon 2022, a brand new game, built on the same engine as Warframe, was released at the end of the show. Dubbed Soulframe, while it had the same artistic style, what little we saw definitely set it apart from Warframe. This is high fantasy, a stark contrast to Warframe’s high sci-fi. And what we’ve seen so far as been… interesting. Curious even. But also rather vague. In the trailer, we see a new land, some new people and a lot of fog. There’s story in there somewhere, hidden behind… [Continue Reading]

Starly Community Day and Staravia Raids

I’ll be honest. I barely bothered with the Starly Community Day. It just wasn’t particularly interesting. We got one of the many bird-like Pokemon, and the day just was… boring, even if I did have nearby spawns. Somehow though, Starly Community Day was boring enough that I’m actually writing an article about it. Not even bothering to try and live up to Deino day Okay, sure, not every Community Day can be as good as the Deino Community Day. That event was a ton of fun, we got a cool Pokemon and it got a good move. We also had… [Continue Reading]

How to Easily Obtain the Hardest Achievement in Quake

“The Painless Maze” is one of the rarest achievements in Quake, requiring you to beat E4M6 “The Pain Maze” on Nightmare difficulty without taking damage. As one of the longest and toughest maps in the game, few people have done this. But today’s guide details how you can earn it without premade saves, cheats, or Nightmare-level skills required! A Note on In-Game Cheats As this guide notes, right now you can just use sv_cheats 1, toggle “god”, and get the achievement that way. But in case the devs ever patch this (or you want to earn it more legitly), this guide will detail… [Continue Reading]

Veil Voyages For A Cool Hat

When it comes to what you actually do in Sea of Thieves, a big chunk of the game is unlocking better cosmetics. One of Sea of Thieves’ big draw is actually fashion, where you make yourself as awesome and badass as possible. However, a lot of the better gear is locked behind quests, voyages and more. And many others are locked behind doing the same sort of mission over and over. But one hat in particular was locked away behind a tedious grind, doing Veil Voyages over and over. And over. Basically, we needed to do 50 of these Veil… [Continue Reading]

A Brief History of Glass in Team Fortress

It may seem odd that I’m devoting a whole article to glass, an incredibly common and straightforward building material. Some games let you break it, others let you shoot through it, and many don’t. Within a few minutes of playtime, you’ll probably notice Team Fortress 2 is decidedly in the latter category. Case closed? Not quite, because glass actually has a more checkered history than you’d first expect. It first came to my attention when I started playing Team Fortress Classic and noticed that only one map had glass: Rock2, letting the flag-scoring player watch their pursuers die to toxic gas.… [Continue Reading]

So Much Loot that it Caused Performance Issues

The nice thing about Sea of Thieves is that every single outing has something different going on. The previous time I played, we had a sloop following us for several miles, playing a game of cat and mouse. This time however, we had, well, insanity on our hands. What started out as a normal Veil mission ended up in… Well… Uh… I don’t know. It’s hard to describe. We’d just finished our first Veil quest when this happened. The plan was to spend our day doing Veil voyages, getting progress towards one of the best hats in the game. And,… [Continue Reading]

Dynamax Raids are Weird

Funnily enough, the one thing I find closest to Pokemon GO in Pokemon Shield is the raid battle system. As in, both games have raids. That similarity is in name only though, because raid work differently in both games, and you can only solo some raids in Pokemon GO, not the majority of them in Pokemon Shield, and GO raids require a lot of tapping, while Shield/Sword raids require taking turns. You also have a timer on both. Pokemon GO has an obvious timer that ticks down, but Shield has a limited number of turns before you are kicked out.… [Continue Reading]

My Thoughts on Dynamaxing

I never really got around to trying Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves. As far as I was always concerned, Z-Moves seemed boring to me, while Mega Evolutions looked fun and stupidly powerful. Then we have Dynamax, which, when I originally first saw it, looked like Mega Evolutions but worse. Your Pokemon gets all big, grows extra features and gets some cool moves in the process. The whole system is introduced in the first cutscene of the game, by a Gigantamax Charizard with wings made of fire. If you had shown me a picture of either of Charizard’s Mega forms alongside its… [Continue Reading]
