Reapers, Glitterbeards and Forts – More Adventures on the Stormcloud

It’s always fun being on a big ship with plenty of cannons. 4-player Galleons are big and tanky and somewhat threatening, especially to other ships. In this session though, the plan wasn’t to reap and tear. Instead, we were playing as emissaries for the Gold Hoarders, in order to help me reach level 50 and become a Pirate Legend.

Luckily this wasn’t too hard to do. We ended up doing some vaults… well, the same vault 3 times, making lots of gold. As we sailed though, we did meet a very aggressive sloop. Luckily they were no threat to us. However, all of a sudden, something strange happened.

Server Merge

Whenever traffic in a Sea of Thieves server gets too low, players are then merged into another server with more people. And that’s what happened to us. We continued with what we were doing, keeping an eye out on both the map table and the horizon, not sure what to expect. We had also swapped emissary, and were now Reapers, our favourite PvP group. The plan was to maybe do a Fort of the Damned, because we had found some ritual skulls prior.

Suddenly, we were approached by a rank 5 Reaper ship. They were only a sloop, but we had no idea if they were friendly or not. As the sloop offered us entry into their alliance, we realized that these guys were cool, but we were keeping an eye on them. However, when we asked the reaper sloop what they wanted to do, we were all caught by surprise. They wanted to do Glitterbeard.

For Glitterbeard!

Glitterbeard was an employee at Rare who had passed away. In his honour, a small quest based on Glitterbeard’s books were written, and culminated into a ritual that would earn those who completed it a Glitterbeard of their own. Normally, this would take the combined effort of 8 people, and between us and the sloop, we only had six. Also in the alliance though was another sloop, and they followed us to a specific tree on a specific island.

Around this tree were 8 circles, and we all needed to be standing on one. With Bacxaber’s help, we all got organized with the right instruments, and waited for the son to set. As it dipped below the horizon, we all started playing our instruments. The tree slowly started glowing, lighting the candles around it, while a strange energy wiggled across the ground. After all the fancy glows vanished, a secret door opened in the rock behind us, revealing Glitterbeard’s lair, alongside the very last part of his story. Our rewards were a glittery beard and a sad but touching farewell from someone who just wanted everyone to be nice to each other.

Forts of the Damned

After that rather amazing show, our alliance swiftly decided on what to do next. The other Reapers had already planned to do a Fort of the Damned, the same way we did, so we decided to work together once more and do a Fort of the Damned. With our now trusted allies, we swiftly lit up all the coloured flames then started a colour-coded battle filled with skeletons. Some of which had kegs.

I got blown up a lot in this battle, but we did manage to beat the final boss, even if we were a bit beaten up ourselves. We all also swiftly made it to rank 5 for Reapers, which meant our loot would sell for more.

We then did this two more times, splitting the loot each time.

700K From Loot, 100K From Fish

While we were battling in the fort, turns out, some epic fishing and cooking were being done. Thanks to the bonus from being Rank 5 Reapers, all these fishes and trophies ended up making tons of money, on top of the money we’d already made. We swiftly made our way to the Reapers hideout, while one of us split off to sell all the fish and trophies that had been caught. So much money came rolling in, plus a little extra from our alliance buddies also selling up.

Exhausted, we finished up for the day, having made over 800,000 gold in this single session. A huge amount, and we had a great time doing it as well.

I can’t wait for our next adventures, especially since there’s some new content coming up.
